boosting while highway driving?

im lmost done putting together a kit for my civic...

the turbo im using is a small ass IHI...

i was reading up on these and it seems that this small turbo spools really early...about 2-2.5k

i should be finished within 2 days...

im planing to take a 6hr drive to LA from SF...

since this is a small turbo, im guessing it will be boosting while im in freeway speeds...
will this be bad for my motor?

Depends on quality of the tune.

If boosting anywhere in the RPM range is BAD for your motor, it's back to the drawing board or dead engine.

It's unlikely you will be boosting while cruising. The engine will still probably be in vacuum. Boost is not a function of RPM, it's a function of RPM + load. Crusing up-hill whilst at freeway speeds could realize some boost though.

A quick fix is to weld your wastegate shut and disconnect your BOV. Take it for a nice little rip to iron out the kinks. ;)

and what about installing 5th gear of vx tranny in your tranny if you run 2.5 rpm your speed will be nearlly 60 mile/h

You'll be spooling climbing a hill but if you are off the throttle and there isn't a big load on the engine you shouldn't be spooling on the highway.

I had a GTI 1.8T with the kkk03s which spooled at around 2k to 10psi and at 3k had full boost of 22psi on the highway I wasn't boosting at 3.5k rpm unless I started stomping on it. If you are just cruising it will be fine.

Yeah when cruising the throttle is only at like 10%-20%. The engine will probably still be in vacuum. Now if you step down while cruising at 2-2.5k RPMs the turbo will probably spool instantly.

you should be fine. I made the trip from Frisco to LA while boosted...it never seen a lb of boost unless i was making a pass >:D So in other words...boost is there only when you want it to be there (like everyone else has told you)

BTW, what part of the city are you from?

tims LS teg + hx35@10psi runs a pound or two of boost at about 1/3 throttle, with 0 vac at 1/4. its all in the tune, and your foot.
