Boosting the Jeep 2.4 DOHC
 

I may own the slowest vehicle on earth and I'm looking to change that. It is a 2002 Jeep liberty 4cyl/5-speed. Perfect for my needs but horribly underpowered.
I have found one Wrangler with this motor turbo'd already. He used the turbo/manifold from the SRT-4 which bolts up to the head. There is an issue with clearance that was over come through the use of an adapter plate that flips the manifold over placing the turbo at the front of the motor. His set-up includes a air/water intercooler and that's about it. No tuning, FMU's, just stock ECU. I think he added larger injectors quite a bit down the road. Last I saw he had done over 27k miles of towing, off-road, road trips etc... Boost around 5-6 psi.

Perfect, done deal,...... but.... I don't want to give up my A/C. Yeah I know I'm a bitch. But this isn't a race car. It's used for camping. skiing, dog hauling and commuting. Plus I like the option of being able to swap the stock cat section back in if I need to for inspections.

I ran through the "selecting a turbo" link and it helped but it is a lot to digest. I know I'm looking for quick boost, I don't need more than 5-6 psi but a little headroom is good, and 5500 max rpm. I just assume keep it oil cooled only unless that will cause issues. But I think at this boost level it should be safe. I'm thinking a T3 should be a good fit and should save a lot of dough over the SRT turbofold and adapter plate. Any thoughts on a good unit for a reliable low boost, low RPM turbo?

Why not just buy a 3.7l Liberty? Cheaper, more power, more reliable.

I hear what you are saying about the 3.7 but in reality there is a huge value difference between my 2.4 base model and a 3.7 in the same condition. Several thousand at least and that's if I could even find a 3.7 with a stick. Beyond that I am not a fan of V-6's in general for a variety of reasons, and I like my Jeep in particular.
Plus I think the 2.4 will make good power with a small turbo. A 3.7 only makes an advertised 210hp/230tq. The only dyno I've seen showed 149hp/166tq at the wheels not exactly a high target.

The SRT-4/PT cruiser used the TD04LR-16Gk which would obviously be a good pick but can't be separated from the manifold. I can't seem to find too much info on it for comparison. BTW I realizing spoon feeding isn't to popular around here but reading compressor maps and scrutinizing A/R and trim is all kind of new to me. Any help even pointing to a turbo familiy would be appreciated.
