Boosting D16A9 -ZC, help needed
I have swaped a D16A9 - 1.6 DOHC ZC into my 2nd CRX Si. Well, now I am thinking of boosting it.
I saw that some of you have done that.
I'd like to know where is the limit on a stock motor? 0,5bar (7psi) wouldn't hurt it? What about up to 1bar (14psi)?
http://www.geocities.com/ludesi_dws/newcrx.html - here is an example of an engine (D16A6/7) that is much weaker than D16A9. D16A6 has thiner rods and smaller crankshaft journals etc.. And this ?stock? turbocharged engine runs on 10psi.
Stock CR is about 9.5:1. Is that too much for, lets say, 1 bar (14psi)? I have a chance to put in pistons from D16A6 (not sure if the piston's height is the same) - that way the CR would be 8:1 (using this calculator http://www.knology.net/~jediklc/D.htm).
Anyway, it's gonna be home made turbo kit. Which turbo do you prefer? Well, rev limit is set to cca 8000rpm, at the moment. It should start to boost over 3500rpm.

Are you sure the d16a6 is weaker than the d16a9? I am running 7psi on a d15 (you think d16 rods are thin, take a look at d15 rods). Your motor can easily handle 7 psi of boost with proper tuning. With 9.5:1 c/r 14psi might be pushing it.

Re:Boosting D16A9 -ZC, help needed
I'd go up to 12 psi with TE/Uber to control the fuel delivery on a stock ZC.
The D16a6 isn't that MUCH weaker than the ZC. I've known people running 15 psi on d16a6's for a couple years with no problems. It's ALL in the tuning.
I would NOT put a6 pistons in the ZC. with 8:1 comp, you'll have to run more boost to get the same power, buy you'll lose any low end till you spool up. I'd stick with mid 9's:1 comp and tune appropriately. A friend of mine is boosting 9 psi on ~10.6:1 comp (y7/y8 mini-me) with a 14b and making close to 200 whp. Needless to say, he's got it tuned right running uberdata.

So fuel management is necessary for going over 5psi.
I'll take pictures of D16A9 and D16A7 rods and crankshaft when I get my ZC motor apart. There is noticeable difference. How much weaker it is I can not know, I haven't blown any of these motors

it should be fine if tuned right, i wouldint rev the zc to 8k thow, try to stay under 7500 to be safe, my turbo zc will be running 12psi with a 48/63 t3 tuned with turbo edit in a few days, stock bottom end :P

aLL d16 cranks are the same.....I think A9 rod's are the same as A6 rod's only different rod from a 1.6 DOHC I've seen is frmo the 1st gen crx..PG6 rod's.
If you want to kill you engine early...you may rev it to 8K rpm's...it's not a B-series vtec engine...it's far from it

I am not an expert on turbos... 48/63 T3? Can you tell me specifications? Well, i'd like to know which turbo would be OK for about 8-12psi.
