boosting a d15

hey guys. i like the site its very educational.

on topic**

i have a 1990 civic dx. it has beed converted from dpfi to mpfi andd i now want to boost it.
i wanted to know if a 14b would do good. ive heard its internally gated at 12-14psi? i know that my internals wont take that will they? im going to go with a HF mani, some type of intercooler,a greddy type s bov, and im going to fab my own pipes. i just need info on the turbo and if 270cc injectors would do for that setup.. thanks

Re: boosting a d15

It's gated at 8 psi and would work nicely on your setup. 270cc injectors would work if you ran an fmu, which is is strongly advised against by pretty much everybody here on the site.

You've done a good amount of research, read the engine management faq in that forum to learn about chipped ecus and you'll be much happier.

But if you wanna run it now with the 270's+fmu, you can. It won't make quite as much power and probably won't last as long though.

idk about 270s, why not $45 dsm 450s?

also the 14b would be just fine.

im running a little .42 .48 t3 on my d15

Re: boosting a d15

yea i just read that its gated at 8psi. misinterprted :P. im going to get my ecu tuned with crome and idk about the 450's. what has to be done to pust them on. i read somewhere on this site that i needed a new injector resistor box?

AJxr 11-15-2006 09:04 PM

Re: boosting a d15

you use the stock 88-91 si resistor box, isnt that what you are using with the mpfi swap? they are plug and play with your car.

You need larger injectors to properly run a turbo setup on Crome, you can't say you'll do that before considering larger injectors.

Re: boosting a d15

damn i thouht my car had saturated injectors..... so if they are better(and cheaper) i guess ill go with those. what do you mean that i will need larger injectors for crome. wont the 450's be fine?

Re: boosting a d15

i think he meant the 270s. the 450s will be fine. thats what im running except im rockin some uberdata.

if you can just get the 270's for cheaper go with those, chipping will take care of the rest. where you gettin the adapter plate from? go to

arent you the guy who boosted a crx with no management what so ever? stock injectors are 240cc 270cc isnt going to help much. get the 450s, no point in boosting something if its going to last 2 weeks if that. chipping your ecu wont help if your injectors max out.

Plugged in 450's sans resistor and chip, then sold them and said he wanted an FMU.

Also PM'd me cause he's niggardly ::)

Last I checked they were 190cc injectors. I have 240cc injectors in my Y8....

Don't listen to the guy about 270cc injectors. He doesnt know what he's talking about. 450's will be fine and give you plenty of headroom for improvement. 14b on a D15 is a good, cheap setup. Im running a D16Z6 with a 14b which is basically the same thing. Been running for ~5 months and it's pretty quick.

im going to the junk yard this weekend to pick up a hf manifold and im buying a 14b soon. is a t25 a better turbo. i heard the 14b is an upgrade to the t25?

Re: boosting a d15

I believe that the 14b is bigger the t-25 is tiny

Re: boosting a d15

14b is bigger than the t-25, not by awhole lot but it will work great on your d15.

I'm only running 9psi. Not trying to set any new records, I just wanted a little pep. I've run both t25's and 14b on D series and would definitly go with a 14b. t25 is a bit too small, 14b is just right for moderate power.

Re: boosting a d15

k got another question. is the stock fuel pump sufficient for the 450's?

laports_best_crx 11-18-2006 12:36 PM

Re: boosting a d15

ya your fuel pump will be ok
