Boosting 98 accord f23a1
Wanting to boost 98 accord f23a1 what would be a good vehicle to look around for a donor turbo? Wanting low end maybe mid torque
|
An Eclipse or other turbo 4G63 would be a good donor - I've even heard of modifying 4G63 exhaust manifolds to fit F-series cylinder heads, as an added bonus. IIRC you have to hog out a couple of the bolt holes.

4G63t will bolt to F22a1-F22a4-F22a6, F22B or H23a1, it wont bolt to a F22b1-F22b2 ou F23a1. Plus F23a1 have specific connecting rods that are way thinner than other F-series or H-series engine. I would strongly recommend to stay away from ''low end boost'' turbos, rod-stroke ratio is around 1.45 to 1 in these engines and oem rods just can't take much abuse.

So would I be better off boosting for higher rpm? What would be a good size turbo if I were to just buy one from eBay or something

Kits on ebay.com pretty much all use generic T3-T4 turbochargers, there's not much choice there but it is good for what it is and for the price. From there when you'll blow the F23a1, I suggest that you swap for a F22b1 from 94-97 Accord. It can seem weird to loose 100cc of displacement, but rods, rod journals and walls are way stronger, allowing you tu up the boost a lot. I ran 308whp on a 170k miles F22a4 stock bottom end for over 10k miles with no issues. Very strong engine. I had a 98 Accord that I was thinking of boosting few years back, I did read a lot on different years specifications for the F-series... F22 are much stronger and cost pennies, if you ever have to swap.
