Default Boosted ZC/92 Si

Alright, new on here but long time visitor of the site. First off, just wanted to say great site! The Tech Projects helped out alot.

Just boosted my 92 Civic Si. Its got a obd-1 ZC motor and ZC trans from hmotors. The setup consists of a 1g dsm 14b (no shaft play!), ss auto-crap ram horn manifold, ebay FMIC, 2" IC piping, HKS SSQ knockoff BOV, Professional Products 68mm TB, XTD stage 3 clutch, DSM black top 450's, 2.5" turbo-back exhaust, and tuned with crome.

As it sits with no boost controller Im hitting 9psi. Pulls pretty good all the way to red line, quick spool (though slower than a t25). Just got a quick question, I want to turn the boost up, thinking no more than 12psi with a re-tune. Not sure if 12psi would be to much on a stock ZC block.

The reason I ask this is I have a buddy with a similar setup in his CRX (Obd0 ZC motor, Si trans, T25, cx mani, FMIC, Zdyne mngmnt: with no boost controller, stock wastegate holds 12psi- 13.2 quarter all day with traction probs on bfg drag radials.) and our cars are very close when we race, its back and forth most of the time. So I figure Im making close to the power hes making or more just because hes got a lighter car and hes on 12psi and im on 9psi. As far as I know from all the research i did, the 14b flows more cfm's than the t25, which is allowing me to make more power on 9psi.

Hopefully that makes sense, I know d-series blocks can only handle a limited amount of horespower. Don't know if 12 psi will put me past that mark. Its my daily, so I cant aford to blow my motor...at least not yet. Any thoughts will be helpful, thanks.

More boost on a smaller turbo doesnt mean more power. Like you said the 14b flows more cfm's . There are a couple people running 12 lbs on stock zc all day. Its all in the tune. If you are a bit paranoid about you blowing your motor then you should throw on some rods and pistons for piece of mind.

well on a 14b and 12lbs.. your probably looking at high 190 to 215 or lower on that.. it will be fine on 12lbs as long as you get it retuned

Cool, thanks for the info. Im not worried about the getting the tune right....so 12psi it is! I'm building a motor here shortly, 1.6 with over-sized vitaras. As far as pics go I will get them Asap.

DO NOT use vitaras in a zc you will have too low of a compression and will be a slug otu of boost and you will hate life.. vitaras in a zc will put you around 7.1:1 compression

Really? Why so low? Why would it be lower in ZC than any other d-series block? Just curious...

a mini me with vitars is a good combo
and if you said you have been here for a while how do you not know to post pics of the car and ****
get it right
oh and ill be running 10 dd and 13 track on my z6 from a 14b
if you could get it tuned properly i think you could handle 15 psi but dont quote me

The ZC heads have larger combustion chambers than an a6 or a z6 head. That's why you'll end up with like 7:1 C/R
