Re: boost and carb????

You can't boost every carb, there's a number of factors that go into boosting a carbed car !!

it's gonna be cheaper to go EFI with mega squirt thant it is buyin all the right timing controls and carb bonnet's and such,

The best of luck on which ever you do,

Re: boost and carb????

To boost carb I recommend double Weber,Solex or Dellorto 35 or 40mm ;) .Look herehttp://www.netikka.net/ville.vieri/e127t.htm this guy has carb in his Fiat and Turbo Schwitzer S1B like mine ;D
http://www.turbos.bwauto.com/files/p...cial_39_45.jpg I think engine with carb also can be boosted.Old Rally car has turbo and carb :) I thing it's work becouse I also building engine with two double carbs and turbo ;D

Re: boost and carb????

Go search the FAQ and Google. There are a lot of people that coost carbs. You just have to modify them slightly. There are step-by-step guides online though.

Nice find though. I would reccomend getting the IM and going MS.

Re: boost and carb????

Try www.toohighpsi.com they've got a ton of carbed turboed cars.

and tuning a carbed car isn't really all that hard

you just gotta make sure there's allways fuel in the float bowl, and it's allways stoich.

boosting a carb isn't all about the carb. it's about timing and carb.

I.E Cadracer; runs a msd BTM to keep some timing changes, if he didn't have that ...kablamo motor,

like i said .. not all carbs are " turbo-able" any thing to do with vacuum setups are a no no ... must be mech. cause ....well the obvious..under boost ..there is no vacuum.... and while your carb needs a vacuum to funtion, it's not goin to give fuel ... or some where around that " theroy " i'm not a know it all in boosting carbs, but i try... don't blow your self up in the prosses.

also , type " blow thru carbs for a search, see what all they modify in them ..

The best of luck

Re: boost and carb????

There are two method to boost carb.First is when the carb is ahead of turbo http://wwwrsphysse.anu.edu.au/~amh11...bo%3D450hp.jpg The turbo has mix the petrol and air.The advantage this method is better mixed air+petrol and better density mixture(cause mixture are refrigarate becouse fuel is resteaming)
The second method is when carb is behind turbo(traditional, like Multi or single point injection ;) ) http://www.teamtoyminator.org/tracks.pr/1216041.jpg (nice looking engine ;D )
This method has better equal Supplying for cylinder, and turbo don't explode ;) This carb must be in absolutely hermetic ;D

Not to sure on the carb my buddys got. I do know that its a dual carb setup. And some bullshit about he now has to run mixed gas. I just helped him put the turbo setup on it, i dont know much else about it. We do have someone coming down from outta state to tune it.

If i remember tomorrow i will take some pics of his setup.

Why not just snag the whole fuel injected setup from MX5 all the way to the ecu if you don't want to go MS?

i took it all but the way my motor sit in the truck the throtle body would have sat about 1/2 inch form the fire wall and there were a few other things i ran in to the stoped me form doing it!!! o ya the ecu plugswere not the same, so i would have had to rewire the whole truck! i found a car already modded for boost and the adapter plate to put it on so i did that!

but i just woke up so i am going to go snap the pics to post but brb!

I would've suggested swappin' to the fuel injection as well, but seeing what you did with that carb setup is neat as hell...Did you fab up that carb hat urself?? Very simple, yet very clean and looks as though it should work well...Nice job...Looks like front page issh to me.. :y

Re: boosted mazda b2000 p/u now wit pics

thanks!!

the carb hat yes i did make my slef it was made form homechepo 12$ flat stock!
the intercooler was a 10$ junk yard saab one
the carb and adapter plate was 200$
and the charge pipes were made form all scraps in the scrap bin at the fab shop 0$
and the real gretty type s was a free be! it all works great!

all that is left is pick a fancy color to paint it and put a boost gauge in it!

lovely welding! especially on that box at the top :-) got lsd? you'll be needing it! ;-)

you should ms it, much safer, and more power,

lots of info on mx6.com about msing f2ts. and, you can do what gtkid22 did and just make an adapter between the two mani halves and you have the plenum facing the right way.

like this :

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...1_110_full.jpg

thats his setup. i think he disappeared though :-( theres another member called draggin88 with a couple of mazda utes, both msed and both pretty cool, one has the fe3 like mine, was itb, soon to be turbo.

Re: boost and carb????

What did you use for an oil fitting on the turbo? was it a standard 1/8NPT? the subaru RHB5 I have uses a banjo fitting with a goofy thread.

fe3tcourier 07-11-2007 04:44 PM

Re: boosted mazda b2000 p/u now wit pics

by goofy do you mean metric iso fine? thats what the holset uses too, infact, the holset is all metric despite being made in the states. switched on company cummins is. thats why one powers our boat. (hx40m boosted 8l C series). the ms v3 board is an example of imperial where metric should have been used. the to220 components have a metric hole in them, yet instead of using a metric hole in the board to match, the board has slightly smaller imperial holes... thus, you have to use the next size down metric plastic screws in them which work, but arent perfect....

got any videos of the ute in action?

fred.

Re: boosted mazda b2000 p/u now wit pics

By goofy I mean it's actually pretty coarse for the diameter (around 1/2"). I don't doubt it's metric. The thunderbird IHI I had that was shot, had an 1/8 NPT oil inlet on it.
