boosted 407sbc

Ok, I used the supplied formulas and with some help from a friend at summit racing I have come up with what I presume to be the best turbo for my single blow-through sbc. If any one can give a few "brutal" opinions, I would greatly appreciate it. 407cid sbc/8:4.1 comp,.41 quench, tfs 195-72cc chamber(2.02-1.60), 94% ve,2200-6200rpm, single t04E 62.1 turbonetic, on the flow map for this turbo shows me to be at 74% efficiency, the engine is a 407 cid sbc with a scat 9000 crank, scat 4340 5.7 i-beams,probe 24cc dished forged, lunati 11051lk (479/479-114lsa) hydraulic flat,1.6 scorpions rollers,tm-1 old school eldy single plain intake,750 quickfuel blow through carb, btm msd, accel hei, 50mm wastegate, tial bov, boosted mech fuel pump, aem wideban 02, intercooler and 3' tubing, ss atuochrome twin sbc turbo headers modified to my single use. Anything I miss?????????????????? Any opinions welcome!!!!!!!!!!!

i dont see a single t04e being anywhere near big enough to feed that hungry 407. i think it will choke out long before max rpm is reached.

you need something massive like a turbo with a t4 exhaust inlet or two t3 turbo's. i would go with a t70 or larger or two gt35's. that engine with less than 10 psi boost should make an easy 600-700hp on pump gas.

Well the T04E I am purchasing is a T4comp/T4 exhaust. Not a t3/t4 hybrid. My friend at Summit has the t40B on a sb mopar cuda, and one on a 70 vette. I don't want lag off the the line. This is a daily driver,3450lbs machine. The t40e can add 450 to 500 to the already 400 or more hp I puttin down currently. It chokes up at 6700- 6800 maybe. I'm not interested in that many rpms for my daily, lol. Rpms just kills engines, and shortens life. The 400 sbc is a torque monster and is an ideal low rpm power. Plus those added cubes help to move my heavy car. With the t40b it should spool almost instantly(around 2100-2300),and pull hard to 6200. I am trying to avoid the bigger is better hype, and run a more efficient set up. The flow map for the t40E shows that it should be happy with required cfm of the engine and rpms desired. That's without totally maxing the turbo. I'm I wrong in my studies?? Not to sound uppity, but I am looking for a more technical and scientific explanation or even opinion. Thanks a lot!!!

I also plan to run a single stage snow perf meth injec kit for the occasional track visit. Lots of careful planing has been going into this build. Especially since its my first turbo set up.

Where are "Autochrome" headers from? If they are made in China ebay stuff, you will have to reweld them several times. I have worked with their headers for imports and they are usually thin and need more bracing.

Are you running an intercooler? Smaller turbo's have to spin faster to create volume flow, thus heating up the air faster due to friction. When you combine this with a restrictive turbine side, you have to factor in the heat which is held back by the turbine housing, which transfers through the turbine housing, into the center section and then into the compressor cover. This might be why you need to run an intercooler with a smaller turbo in your case, thus preventing the chance of detonation and making it easier to tune in the long run (and uh yeah, it will easily make more power intercooled...)

Do you have a link to this turbo that you are describing? I think it sounds a tad small for a SBC, but we need more info to honestly help.

AGP Turbochargers, Inc. :: Turbonetics Turbos :: T04E Turbochargers

I am running an bar and plate 31x12x3 intercooler. The turbo is a true t4. So a t4 would be to small for a 406cid?

I just noticed that stated in your first post that you are looking to run the Turbonetics 62-1 with a T4 turbine housing. This will be a pretty good turbo for your setup, however I feel if you are planning on running this setup with out an intercooler you will be leaving a lot of power on the table.

No, a T4 turbine housing is probably where you want to be on a small block. T3 turbine housings are usually small on a small block and T6 turbine housings are a bit big unless your looking to run higher compression, more RPM's and / or nitrous or you are talking about a big block with good heads.

I wouldn't imagine running a boosted engine without an intercooler. I also plan to run the snow perf. Meth kit. So what do you think of the rest of my combo. 700hp worthy????

How about the 750 quick fuel carb?
