Boost Spike! Need help!
What's up fellow HMTers! I gotta question. I have a JDM B18c (GSR) turbo, I have a 5 lbs. spring in the wastegate. But it still spikes to about 14-15psi. I have stock GSR w/ skunk2 intake manifold and xs power manifold. Any help would be appreciated. No flaming please! Thanks in advance.

Is your wastegate line hooked up correctly and in good condition?
Have you taken the wastegate apart and checked the internals to make sure that it's not seized? |
Re: Boost Spike! Need help!
The wg is hooked up to the compressor housing, and the wastegate was just taken apart to put in the 5 lbs spring to replace the 10psi spring.

Re: Boost Spike! Need help!
those xspower mani are good for leaks arent they? i know i few guys with problems like that cuz of manifold leaks...

How did you determine it's a 5 psi spring?

Re: Boost Spike! Need help!
The spring came in a package marked 5 lbs spring from turbonetics. It's half the height of the previous spring and the coils are way thinner. I used to get 10 psi from the first spring with 3 shims on a turbonetics log manifold. But when I switch over to the xs tubular manifold it would spike to 15 psi. So I took out the shims and it still spiked to 11.4 psi. This was all on a B20B. Then I put in a JDM GSR and now it spikes to 15 again, witout shims. So I changed the spring to the 5 psi sring and it holds 5 psi in first, but when I shift to second it spikes to 11 to 15 psi. I was thinking of just switching back to the log manifold to try and cure my problems. Damn! those tubular manifolds look awsome though. Does anyone else have this problem with any other type of manifold?
