How many psi are you running, maybe that wastegate isnt big enought or isnt getting a good signal

Re:Boost spike :(

a 38mm wastegate should be plenty big enough for a stock gs-r at whatever he's pushing, what like 10-12psi?

when do the spikes occur?

id guess it has something to do with the configuration of that boost controller, tried bypassing it yet?

Re:Boost spike :(

Right now i can't get it to go past 6psi. I have a ".6bar" spring is what I have been told from the seller.

I tired and tried many different ways.

I took off the Boost controller and I ended up with 5-5.5 psi.
I tried 20 million ways to route my vaccum hoses, but still spiked.

Right now, i have it routed in a way that it doesn't go past 6psi.

I'm almost ready to say that I have a defective boost controller, not sure yet.

well when you disconnected the controller, and you only got 5psi, did it continue to spike?

if not id say thats most definitely the problem.

It didn't spike when the boost controller was out the picture.

problem solved.

could be the way its installed or set up, or it could be defective.

either way, for now just buy a heavier spring for the Tial, and call it a day. They say SS Autochrome's are identical so the spring from one of those off of ebay would probably work if you wanna save a few bucks. I think it was evosol who disassembled both units to show they were the same.

Re:Boost spike :(

It can't by the way i hooked it up. First time i followed the Greddy diagram and it spiked like a mother.

All other ways yield to 5-6 psi or spiking.

Why woudl i need a new spring? If i have a .6bar shouldn't that work just fine?

Also, what do i search on ebay "SS chrome wastegate spring" ?

heavier spring will cause the wastegate to open at higher psi, its an alternative to having the other spring you have.

i think an 11psi spring usually opens at 10psi, so he probably gave you a 6psi spring, and not whatever else he claims.

ebay, just search by seller, ssautochrome, advanced search owns
all it really found for me was 8.x and 14.7psi springs.

Re:Boost spike :(

I want to open the wastegate and check but i'm having trouble opening it. I'll give it another try soon.

You dont have your Profec tuned right. Drop the gain to 2 or 3 then turn up the boost. It wont spike.

When it goes past the psi it is set for. I'm suppose to be at 9-10, but it goes 15-20

Jesus, I suggest fixing this problem before you blow your motor. :-\

I would start with that EBC.

I don't go into boost at all except when i'm testing. Not stupid enough to waste the motor and $4000 lol

Plus now i can't go past 6 psi anyway, :(

Drop the gain , and turn up the "SET boost"? I think he has been keeping the gain higher than the set boost. Is that wrong?

Re:Boost spike :(

Dude im not trying to be an ass but your not giving enough good info, anyways it cant be that hard to fix it can only be a few things. From the way it sounds you need to get a manual boost controller, its easier way to go in my book,or a diffrent wastegate spring. It can only teally be the 2 or bad hook up which you said it was hooked up right.Info might not help but good luck. :)

RNPoo7 01-27-2005 03:15 PM

Re:Boost spike :(

Feel free to ask questions because i usually forget a lot stuff. But i think i covered it all. I don't see what you need. I told you everything i have. I'm calling greddy again as we speak. I am not gonna get a manual boost controller. I just dont want one. As far as the spring, i'm trying to open mine first and see for sure which one i have, then i'll go buy one if all fails.

Also, a friend of mine is getting brand new one straight from Greddy because his was screwed up and i'm waiting on it to get here so i can test it and see if it fixes my problem or not.

95civic 01-27-2005 03:25 PM

Re:Boost spike :(

Yea the boost spike pretty much explains its self sorry.I have a homemade boost controller i made for 2bucks. never had a problem.I would just run with out the controller and run 5.5 unless your goal for boost are higher(prolly are)so just get a diffrent spring? :-\

SpankedYA! 01-27-2005 03:29 PM

Re:Boost spike :(

I have my gain set to 2 and my set is at 62 I believe for high boost. It works off the percentage of the stock waste gate opens at. Do you have yours converted to PSI?

RNPoo7 01-27-2005 03:30 PM

Re:Boost spike :(

yup.

funny how u have ur gain at 2, lol that's what mine is at right now and had the set at 65.

RNPoo7 01-27-2005 04:26 PM

Re:Boost spike :(

I finally managed to get in touch with Greddy today, suprisingly they weren't lunching like that last. However, i was on hold for 37 ------- MINS. raarr it was horrible.

But anyway, at the end he said I am not sure, you have to send it in so we can test it. :?

I emailed the provious owner that said it's "brand new" in hope that he can give me some info where he got it from, etc.
