Re:Boost with no cat.

turbo doesn't like cat at all

I had a pipe on mine, but I went and purchased an obx racing cat... VERY NICE. It takes the smell out of your exhaust, but it's a straight through design with absolutly no restriction.

Below are flow numbers for various cats and test pipes. This test was supposed to have been performed by Comptech at 28" of vacuum. (Test info was pulled from the net, so I can only assume it is correct).

Stock NSX 242.1 cfm
Stock Type R 223.6 cfm
Stock Integra 218.3 cfm

Catco (metal core) 2.25" 223.8 cfm
Catco (metal core) 2.5" 271.9 cfm

Random Tech 2.25" 297.1 cfm

Catco (std. core) 2.25" 338.2 cfm
Catco (std. core) 2.5" 388.0 cfm

Car Sound 2.25" 342.7 cfm

Test Pipe 2.25" 407.1 cfm

cfm = flow capacity in cubic feet per minute

Unfortunately, the 2.5" Car Sound Cat and 2.5" test pipe was not measured. I've read that folks have had some problems with the Random Tech Cat. I sell the Car Sound Cat, frankly because Larry Widmer of Endyn runs it on his beast (3" version), he has had no problems with it over 3 years and has recommended to me.

gutted cats suck, i gutted mine on a ranger then replaced it with a $40 toucan high flow cat(its just a resonator) and could tell a difference. had to get an o2 sim to fix the cel tho.

Re:Boost with no cat.

some nimrod told me that if you wrap the o2 sensor in tinfoil and just dangle it under the car it won't CEL, i don't see how this is possible..
any ideas?

The OBX ones can be found on ebay. They are described as 2.5" and they are SS

I don't think it's possible...don't exactly know why, but it doesn't work. Thanks for the help guys...I think I will run cat-less now. BTW is test pipe still quiet?

BTW I already have a thrush glasspack resopnator intsalled-will i be able to get away with being catless...soundwise? what i am trying to say is that i don't want the car to be too loud.

cheers,
chris

sound should be the same... esp with a turbo, will sound cooler

Re:Boost with no cat.

nimrod it is. unheated o2 sensors need to be heated up to work properly. and if you did hang a heated one it would read kinda lean..

Re:Boost with no cat.

even without a cat, just leave all the 02's in the exhaust...im obd2 and it usually takes a few weeks of driving to trip a cel
