Blown Seals

Well got my car running again and i think i blew the turbo seals, oil is leaking from the exhaust turbine hausing, the guy i bought the turbo said he blew the seals cause of too much oil pressure, and he resaled it himself, maybe he didnt do it right, or did it blow again? I dont have a restrictor on it either, i think it might need one, the car still runs, and pulls hard, but i dont want to be driving it if the seals are broken, and only when im at high rpms does smoke come pouring out of the back, no the exhaust, just like the hole back is smokin, heres a crapy pic i drew, this is about where its leaking, when i get some batteries i will take real pics, http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/7509/untitledqp5.png. lmk what u think, thanks.

So i just tightend all the bolts and oil lines , and drove the car to see if it would help, the first time i boosted in 3rd, and a wall of smoke, im talking a BIG ass amount of smoke, i couldnt see ---- behind me, and i have really bad boost leak, i get full bost at like 5200, shitty, when i do boost smoke comes out like crazym when i drive normal its fine, i guessing the turbo is fucked, if so, i give up.

Re: Blown Seals

Again, too much oil pressure doesn't blow anything in the turbo.

#1You are either feeding too much oil into it (use a 1/16" restrictor)

and/or

#2 or your oil drain is improper (you need it ½" dia. and straight down to the top of the pan)

Either or both of these INSTALLATION problems will cause the oil level to raise within the turbo, forcing the oil to pour out of the turbo through the easiest spot: The turbine end piston ring.
Oil gets sucked into your exhaust under boost and leaks at the chra to turbine housing junction when off boost because this joint is not tight.

I say: Fix your oil plumbing problems and the problem is solved.

if it still leaks with a proper oil system, you may have to find a good turbo shop to rebuild that turbo..... ^-^

I get lots of smoke (oil) when i'm sitting at a stop sign or light, when i'm driving or boosting theres no smoke, just when i'm at idle. what does this mean, I am using 3an feed, and my drain is good, I'm going to try a restrictor tomorrow, but if you think you know what could be causing this smoke at idle please lmk.

Re: Blown Seals

im pretty sure all the oil lines are on correctly, the guy that put it on knew what he was doing, but it doesnt hurt to check, what would make that much smoke tho, i mean it looked like i did a 2 min burnout, it was fucked up, this sucks, this is the second turbo that owned me. As for the smoke at idle, im not too sure, it could be anything, try to open the hood when its smoking and pin point where its coming from, then let us know.

Re: Blown Seals

yeah it may smoke at idle too. If the turbo is spining fast enough.

3 AN is 3/16"..... you need to reduce it to 1/16" at some point.

What's the smallest diameter of your oil return line?

Re: Blown Seals

Well there stealthmode oil lines, just the regular ones, not too sure the exact measurements, whatever the stealthmode ones are i guess. it smokes at idle only after i beat on it, when my old motor blew it threw all kinds of oil in the turbo cause i blew a piston, could it just be like all that oil burning off, i cant think of how the hell it would make that much smoke, i need to video tape that ---- so you can see what im talking about, and then when i look under the hood, a tiny bit if smoke is coming out where the arrows on the pic are, but like hardly any smoke.

Re: Blown Seals

common. No need to video tape that!
Oil is coming out the turbine side. Very typical problem.
It's normal that it's dripping under the turbo AND in the exhaust, causing smoke, it may calm down when oil pressure drops for a little while.

Either the turbo's bad (is the shaft still tight?)
oil system's bad (you need 1/16" inlet and ½" drain)
Or the engine is compressing in the pan preventing proper oil return.

Re: Blown Seals

Yea i know, but it looks kinda cool. Shaft is reallly tight, i made sure of that. Im not sure what to get, they have oil restrictors from stealthmode, witch is the oil lines i have, is this what i want http://www.---------------------------/oil-res.shtml and that would go on the turbo and the oil line goes in to that, or am i wrong.
