Blown Gokart... OH Yea
Hay guys! I;v know of the site for a year or so, so I figured i'd join in the comrodery< (not spelled right). Anyway I was making a gokart one day and decited that five hp wasent enuf, and I rememberd the story you had about those shity, so called "eletric blowers". Why, not good for a car, How about a gokart!!! So Im half way done and will post how I did it and and other ---- I did. I also sugest someone else try this!!
Later. |
Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
Because it still cannot produce enough forced air to feed even a 5hp go-cart engine. It is not designed to create boost, and therefore will not be able to. i suggesst that if you are serious about this project of yours, you shsould look into a really small (real) turbo. These can be had by calling up most any garret dealer.
Good luck! ;) |
Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
I agree, a could you imagine how fun a turbo go-cart would be. I say, go for it, and depending on how much it costs you, I bet others (me ;D) would try something similar. Go carts are the ----, if they had say, 10-15 more horses, then they would be the ----. Or you could go all out, build the motor, and how knows, you might put out as much power as an HF motor (half kidding ;))

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
i had a neighbor a while ago that had a gokart. it had four slicks and had a build yz125 motorcycle engine in it. it only had one gear and it went 70+ mph. he wouldn't even let his kid drive it. i saw him on it a couple times and that fucker held the road like no ones buisness. it had a big spoiler in front and one in back. he was going like 60 mph on a old country road up and down hills. it was crazy. go karts are definatly fun :)

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
We considered using a belt driven smog pump (with a small pulley) hooked on the axle of a go cart, feeding air into the intake. We were just about to do it... Maybe in the near future?

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
Iv'e seen the motorcycle engine go carts with all the gears in effect... Linkage to the shifter of the engine, makes it shift like a rachet shifter.... Clutch ,e.t.c....
No idea how fast these things are. but i can see it trying to wheele on shift :D |
Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
I used to own a 80cc shifter kart. my top speed w/cose ratio tranny was about 90mph. with stock gearing it would do about 100mph.also there is a guy in cali that builds custom barstool racers and one of his personnal racers has a turbocharged honda 8hp motor.
|
Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
now that is what I am talking about. 90+ in a gocart ;D ;D
Its a rush doing 80+ on a quad, and gocarts are SO much lower. I want one of these gocarts |
Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
shifter karts arent as expensive as people think. I paid $1500 for a used chasis, bought a 93 yz80 engine for $300 and threw about $200 in for better pipe and silencer . there you have it, $1500 for the time of your life . if you really have some balls, I have a built kx250 motor that would probably take it to about 125-140.

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
my little brother uses an old mazda rx7 smog pump on his go kart. he hand welded the entire chassis himself too, all from scratch. he has 4 slicks and a ATV differential too, the thing is insane. he has a honda 5 horse motor on it, and that thing runs circles around anything that any of the local kids have. he only had the smog pump on for a while, he cant get the air/fuel mixture right. he hasnt had time to work on it lately, cause i just sold him my old 5-speed maxima and now he has a girlfriend, his own business, etc. and the s-o-b is only 17. sheesh, what a life. by the way, he makes remote control car chassis for traxxas rustlers and other cars, his company is called nightmare racing, hes gonna be advertising in car action soon, his chassis are some of the best ive ever seen, in case anyone is interested.

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
I may be building a gokart in the future for my little brother(ok and me) i want to use a v twin I think that would be a awsome go cart babumpbumpbumpbumpbump hot rod style.

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
I think that the smog pump on Adam's go kart would be the ----. I'm gonna hook one up at my work to the alternator tester and see if it forces alot of air out. The worlds first smog pump blown kart. NICE!!!!! :-*

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
already tested the smog pump on the lathe at full speed, it was pretty decent, maybe 1-2 psi.. enough for a go cart and no engine managment ;)

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
That sounds swell! I bet that we could get some more air into that carb. Smaller pulley = more power. ;D
|
Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
Its a cadillac pump with a ford range pulley.
Jeff |
Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
Sounds like a Ted Pearson setup. He likes the caddy motors and the ford rangers.

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
i just recently picked up a beat gocart for 25 bucks. it had a five horse briggs but i am in love with 2 stroke power. i had a 86 kx500 sittin in my garage and a cart that didnt run. needless to say the 500 motor is on the cart. no idea what it tops out at. im too scared to find out. the frame needed some serious gussets and reinforcement but that thing rips. grabbing gears in a go cart is supreme.

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
"grabbing gears in a go cart is supreme"
oh ---- |
Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
I dunno, a turbo go-kart would be cool, but I dunno if it could beat this one in the cool-factor:

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
yeah that guy is now using an exhaust turbine to generate power. but i dont see how that litlte shaft is going to hold up with driving a cart! i know hes geared it to 72000rpm to 6000 rpm but there will tremendous force on that little spline!. 12 times the torque. how much torque does a turbo really have

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
thats a cool site!

Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
Its all about the bar stool ;)
|
Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
alright, that thing has a mini turbo :o
definitely one of the top 5 coolest things i have ever seen ;D |
Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
Yep, that Mini-turbo is made by IHI, and is $1400...
When I 1st saw that I wanted to try to get one for a Moped =P -Henry |
Re:Blown Gokart... OH Yea
i have a go-ped that is i think 1.1 hp...
would the marine blower work on those? it's gotta work...the intake filter is a plastic covered sponge. |
