blew ring today :(

hey everyone.... i dont post much on here just read and get info :) yesterday finished intslling my delta cam for turbo applications and today my breather filter smoked. what do you know 75 compression in cylinder 1, fileld it with oil and compression jumped back up so yeah...ring. i talked to dh racing today about some forged internals and im gonna order monday. thing is i dont know what to do to complement them.... blockguard, sleeve <kinda to much for me right now. my setup is a f22a6 with evo iii dsm manifold, big 16g turbo, 450cc, delta cam 272/260, uberdata. i probably will get a new turbo too. any suggestions for build?

sleeves cost a lotta dough. but your block will be bullet proof. block guard a lotta people say is just crap, and can cause the sleeves to go like ( ) along with cooling issues. i have no personal expierence though. If i were you, fordged rods/low comp pistons, and some bigger injectors. turn up the boost.

Use block filler its thicker than a block guard check out this thread https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...?topic=36739.0

Sounds like the build I'm involved with, f22a1, Evo III DSM mani, "big" 16g turbo, 450cc's and uberdata. Why do you say you'll get a new turbo, looking for more power? How long did you have the setup before you installed the cam?

i drove it since september of 05, i have a theory that at high rpms the small dsm turbos flow extremely hot air and that causes stock rings to burn up. for now my i went with dh-racing bottom end internals. my engine is taken apart and waiting for fresh stuff. i want a turbo that will be more efficent for my engine and make more power at same amount of boost. also the cr pistons that i got were 9.5 : 1

you are intercooled right? How much boost were you running when you blew it?

this is what i plan to do on my budget f22 build. race engineering (raceeng.com) 8.8:1 f22 85.5mm overbore pistons (made by Wiseco), importbuilders.com h23 forged rods, and have the block bored .020 over and honed.

pistons and rings are about $500., IB rods are about $355 and are comparable to Eagle rods but Eagle doesnt make anything for the f22/h23 (f22 and h23 have the same exact rods), the only other reputable company that makes rods for the f22/h23 is Crower but their rods are damn near $700. then get the block hot tanked, bored 20 over and honed which shouldnt cost much..

how much were your dhr 9.5:1 pistons? and what type dome/top did you get?

DHR (dave hickman) doesnt really have a good 'track record' as far as service, products, and engine building goes. search around, i'd be wary....

but i t hought that wat intercooler was for ? to cool the air at any rpm of boost ?

And it does, but the higher into the RPM range and higher the PSI of boost the hotter the air gets. It does cool the air ALOT and that's why I wouldn't even to a budget build without atleast a DSM sidemount.

After a certain point, the turbo gets past its eficiency and is blowing hot air and the fmic cant cool enough.

Did you retune after the new cam?
