A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
After weeks of reading on HMT I bought a used T3 unit and slapped it on my 89 Civic.(d15b2).
All i used was used stuff such as piping, flanges and intercooler. I mean...i built the whole thing for $125! I'm starting off cautiously doing 2-3psi to see if the thing stays in 1 piece and it runs great! Better power in mid range and the motor runs smoother too. In the future i'll get a fmu and such but for now...i'm hella happy! THANKS GUYS! and Howdy from Holland (Netherlands) http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...97_61_full.jpg http://www.infonuke.com/albums/album368/162_6245.jpg |

Good ----. Keepin it real with the HMT stylez. 8)
What are you using for fuel management? I don't think 2-3psi is going to blow your motor. ;) At that level it's probably faster stock with a header. How does your oil drain look? That manifold looks like it places the turbo pretty low. Got any more pics? __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
Thanks man,
No management yet, hence the low boost. The turbo is not sitting that low but it's really close to the block. The problem was that the exhaust elbow/wastegate housing on it is in a fixed postition so i can't clock it. Ford Escort Turbo's (here in Europe) have the turbo mounted 90 degrees tilted,so the elbow was pointing either forward or backward. I could have let it point forward and build a downpipe from there, but then i'd have to put a 92-95 radiator in. Therefor i made the manifold this way. The return line.. The turbo came with a return pipe on it,all i did was let it point the other way, weld a small pipe on the oilpan and linked the 2 with a hose. I'll make some close-ups tomorrow. |

Get an fmu it's worth the 100 bucks.

Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
Eek, be careful with that no management thing. Pistons don't like it when you run boost with no fuel. Hell, they hardly like it when you run boost with fuel. :-\

A/f says i'm between stoich and rich all the time. I know it's not a safetynet but it says at least a littlebit. |
Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
lets see some close up pics of the manifold. that thing is hmt style. ;D

Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
I though I was crazy going 15 psi with the FTB hack and 450's.
In which city are you? Do an MPFI swap..... |
Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
Keep it at that crazy low boost until you get at least an FMU and pump and than take the time and learn how to use turboedit.

Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
great advice guys! thanks!
Semnos,i'm in Nijmegen, near Arnhem. Funny the oilreturn was mentioned....the gasket was going out on me so the whole underside of the Civic is now coated in motoroil.I done fixed it and made all the pipes black. Hallelujah for Hammerite. |
Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
I got a friend in Nijmegen he has a boosted peugeot 204 XS...he converted it to fuel injection and has it boosted at 1.1 bar or it was 1 bar.
Maybe you know him...his username here is DutchPug. He just ran a 14.3sec 1/4 mile time in blegiam @0.9 bar or it was 0.8. Tomorrow i'm going APK and when it's done I'm boosting my civic |
Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
Damn did kyle weld up your manifold ;)
looking good man, HMT style 8) |
Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
did you weld the turbo to the manifold?
|
Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
Nope,i used the T3 flange off of the Ford manifold,so i welded cast iron flanges (ZC CRX and the Ford one)onto steel pipes.
some say it'll break, some say it'll hold together. I guess i be finding out. Semnos:Never seen a Boosted Peugeot around here, damn shame i didn't coz them are really really light cars. Nice e.t. on such a little motor (85c.i.) Apk (annual car inspection)....well i'm due on the 22nd of this month,i'm kinda wondering if it'll pass the smog test. |

with no fuel mamagement and boost, that car is probably running leaner and cleaner than before (as long as you kept a cat) |
Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
if you run lean you wont pass, it raises the nox if I remember corectly.

I've never heard of running lean would increase emissions. I can't see how less combustibles, less gas + higher combustion temps = more ---- going out the tailpipe :-\ If its true thats news to me |

Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
I garontee(sp??????) that it is true, I just cant remember if its nox that gets raised but I think it is. Its been a few years since I ran a four gas analizer ;)
|
Re:A big thanks to all you guys at HMT
yup NOx...if you have a CAT it could still pass if you ain't running too lean
