Default big 16g on vitara z6

I built a z6 block-z6 head w/ eagles, vitaras, 57 trim t3, and a few other goodies and made 286 hp on 12.5 psi about a year ago. Motor is still running well, but i'd like to downsize the turbo. preferable to get something that made more power sooner and levels out is fine yet doesnt fall on its face in the higher rpms . This car is daily driven and hitting 5k to get full boost is a little extreme. So im thinking of the big 16g. Anyone currently running this setup with a dyno sheet they are willing to share? my budget only allows for $250 and Ive stared at the flow charts and the formulas but me and math just dont get along.

For a daily driver, the big 16g is a great turbo. Although I did have problems with compressor surge on mine, spooled at 1000rpm lol.

Good turbo for 200-300 hp range, you try to make it live above 350 for any decent amount of time and it will ---- the turbine out the exhaust. Shaft diameter on the TD05H series turbos is laughable.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I've had to remove my exhaust a few times on a DSM to remove chunks of TDO5H turbine wheel. Blew the whole half of the bearing housing off one time too!

Spool at 1000rpm sure, but not full boost though. Believe it or not, they spool kinda shitty on a 4-banger for the top end they provide. If the 6cm didn't have a casting flaw I'd say pop one of them on there if it's going on a D-series. Meh, it's a Mitsu turbo. Not really worth the consideration unless you have a DSM or already have your set-up ready for a Mitsu flanged turbo.

Just get a T3 60 trim and be done. Almost identical compressor inducer as the 16g, but a larger shaft and better all around. You could possibly get the 16g to spool a little faster than the t3 60 trim, but not too much and the Garrett would make up for it in reliability and ease of install. ---- a Mitsu.

Thread Jack:

CRX2211, you got any t3/to4e's or t3/t4s laying around that need to be rebuilt? I need one for my 951...I have a rebuild kit laying in the bottom of my tool box.

/thread jack.

What he fails to mention is he had one on an LS. On a D-series you probably won't compressor surge even with the boost cut all the way up.

Make sure you run an external wastegate, FTW.

Sorry OP Joseph is correct. Stock internal gates suck a fat one.
