Backfiring?
When Im at cruising down the freeway, I would sometimes hear some grubble or pop sound (not a high pitch "POP" like a balloon, but like BOOOM BOOOM). They are noticeable because I can actually feel them.
Just wondering if that was backfiring and if so what can be causing that? Just did a search, and some say its timing that is retarded too much and some say its too much fuel? I have not yet tuned my car for partial throttle so it could likely be running a tad bit rich... I'm using uberdata on a t3 and b16 engine and rc 440cc's for those that care. Any help is appreciated. |
Re:Backfiring?
is this just when u are crusing at part throttle or decelerating? i have a fmu and when im crusing sometimes it will load up and crack and pop and backfire.rev it up to clear it out, and off we go ;D

Re:Backfiring?
if your running rich its excess fuel.
also exhaust gases are still flammable, rally cars use a spark plug in there turbo housing to keep the turbo spooling on shift time. of course every race the turbo is fried to ----, but they got cheese. (just a little fact incase u wondered while watching WRC why they pop and shoot fire) cheers. |
Re:Backfiring?
No, they shoot fire all the time because of their anti-lag, when they close the throttle there's a big throttle bypass valve that opens and the ECU retards timing to ATDC so all the combustion takes place in the exhaust.

Re:Backfiring?
back to the question at hand, yeah, you're more than likely just running a little rich. my car does it at part throttle also.

Re:Backfiring?
It happenes mostly while Im cruising on the freeway around -12 psi to -8psi.
