I've been looking for a daily driver for about a month now.. (I want to sell/trade my 86 944 turbo w/ chip) I need a 4 door, and I want awd.. trips to the snow, and I might track/autox it when my 73 914 v8 , or the 944 turbo race car is down or its raining..

Anyways..

Im looking at Audi A4's, Lots of luxury, good performance, AWD, leather, reliable, bla bla bla.
And I initially wanted a 1.8t quattro.. but there are so few of those out on the market vs the 2.8 v6's.

The reason I wanted a 1.8t is because running a big turbo, (and all the other stuff) you can eek 420+hp out of them (there are kits..) but with just a chip they have 200+hp.. Now the v6's have 200hp factory, but not much can be done to it short of a supercharger kit (4k bucks..) and that only nets 290hp.. not worth the money. Now Im sure I can do a turbo for ~1500 bucks... Im a welder/fabricator (I stuffed the v8 into the 914.. and converted it from aircooled vw engine to the watercooled sbc engine) so I can do all the plubing myself (built headers for my v..

But Im not sure on the tuning.. I dont want to go with a standalone or piggyback system.. The year range im talking about is 96-99.. Im not familiar with audi computers, but I know they make a chip for the 2.8.. so therefore SOMEONE has the ability to modify the computer.. But im curious if anyone has experience with that on the audi's?

Also my main question up top Has anyone seen a 2.8 turbo audi? (not the 2.7 tt engine's..)

Stay away from the V6 engines in those. I haven't heard anything good about them. The 1.8t has a pretty good size aftermarket of parts compared to the 2.8. When I was in the market for a 4dr that was AWD is was checking out the A4's and found alot of the V6's more so then the 1.8T. So I did a search under Audi A4 V6 reliability and that opened my eyes and looked elsewhere. In the end, I ended up with a 92 Galant VR4. I was really close to getting a 99 Impreza wagon but the boxer setup kinda scared me away since I've never turned a wrench on one before. Not saying I turned alot of wrenches on DSM/4G63's but that damn Euro ---- is ------- expensive to fix.

Ive been on the audi forums and from what i've seen the v6's are more reliable than the 1.8's... but I really havent heard anything major failing... so im not worried.

i had a v6, made it to 100k then i totaled it. only problem was the timing belt because it was expensive. PES has a blower for the 2.8. From what i remeber space was pretty cramped in the 2.8 engine bay

y dont you just do the 2.7t, its already setup for you, and besides those germans dont like there ecus messed with

Vw arent like honda's ---- wont work without ALOT of fab work, the 2.7T never runs right,

isint that just a vr6 motor? i know people turbo those in jettas, ive heard the same thing, there more reliable then the 1.8t
