Apexi Muffler
I just bought a Apexi muffler for my car and was wonderin how good they are with a turbo? cuz i heard u have to have a really good muffler on a turbo vehicle.

Re:Apexi Muffler
From what I do know about turbo exhaust systems.. you need a muffler that flows very well.. Basically one "designed" for a turbo. When dealing with turbo applications, delta-pressure vs backpressure are not as important as "just get the damn gases out"! So, if it flows well, (2.5" to 3") outlet, you should be OK.

Re:Apexi Muffler
ok cool, thanx

Re:Apexi Muffler
..now when I say "outlet", I don't mean "tip". Like the big coffee cans that sound like mice farting. I'm talking about the actually channel that runs through the middle of the muffler need to be big.

Re:Apexi Muffler
Oh yea....it's the same size as the exhaust pipe, it's pretty big

Re:Apexi Muffler
I'm getting an Apexi muffler whenever I finish putting my car abck together. I ever took my car apart. I just like to take things apart I guess. I'm getting the big Apexi that is made for turbo Supra and going w/ 3" piping like my friend's Datsun powered turbo rotary. The thing is loud as hell going down the street. ;D

Re:Apexi Muffler
Speaking of mufflers...Is a turbo honda B or D series just hella noisy if you run no muffler? Or does the turbo quiet it down at all?
|
Re:Apexi Muffler
Actually, I would like to know about noise reduction as well.
I'm running the 5 Zigen dunk style muffler and it flows VERY well, thus, sounds like a rabid lawn mower. I'm SOOOOO wanting to get away from the rice sound. Will the use of the turbo decrease the noise while cruising at 3000rpm? |
Re:Apexi Muffler
it's not as loud compared to an N/A car...
u'd actually notice the difference a lot...but as for running no pipes, and no muffler...that's sketchy...that's still be loud as ----, but not half as bad as having an N/A. |
Re:Apexi Muffler
I ran my car with just the downpipe right after I got the turbo on...it's not practical, the turbo sounded cool to me but aparantly the two cops that pulled me over, within 15 minutes of one another, didn't like it. I wasn't even getting on it because my rings were brand new. I'm gonna have to recommend a muffler. :P

Re:Apexi Muffler
You guys would be suprised how quiet your cars get after you put turbos on them. Blacksi is running straight pipe 3in all the way back through 2 resonators, and thats it, no muffler and his car is hardly loud at all. I mean, I have drove with open downpipe on a 1.5 hour trip.
I do recommmend 2.5 & up for exhaust size, and No cats either.. blah Jeff |
Re:Apexi Muffler
Wouldn't your car run like poop if u had 3" exhaust pipe?? as in losing alot of power?
|
Re:Apexi Muffler
No, for turbo applications the more flow the better. Actually the best exhaust would be no exhaust, ie. no pipe hooked up to the outlet on the turbo...but we don't want to start fires under the hood :)

Re:Apexi Muffler
fires are awsome... ???
|
Re:Apexi Muffler
No exhaust would be ridiculous. Not the fact that you could start a fire, the fact that exhaust gas is then being sucked back into your motor. COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Re:Apexi Muffler
Well if we were going to have the theoretical best exhaust then I am sure we would at least be going for a decent CAI, a nice hood scoop would be good. Then no more worries about sucking exhaust fumes up.
On that topic check out this functional shaker setup that is made for the saturn cars, I think they have one for my model year also ;D http://www.xtremeracingconcepts.com/.../sidescoop.JPG |
