Apexi Auto Turbo Timer ?

Hey guys i was just looking over some stuff, looking for some new goodies and stumbled across the Apexi Auto Turbo Timer and was reading some infor on it, seems like a decent product for the price but i noticed some cool features it had:

he Apexi Auto Timer allows the vehicle to idle for a preset amount of time after the ignition key has been removed. In turbocharged vehicles this prevents hot oil in the engine from coking up in the lines. Hard driving can raise engine oil temperatures to dangerously high levels. Proper cool down is essential for a healthy turbo and engine.

The Auto Timer stands as a technological marvel. The pen shaped, compact size makes the Auto Timer one of the smallest turbo timers on the market. This allows a clean and stylish installation virtually anywhere inside the car. The unique multi angle joystick button allows easy navigation through the many feature menus.

Upgraded in every way from the previous model, the new Auto Timer can automatically determine the necessary amount of after idling time. A Manual Mode allows the user to preset desired idling times from 0 sec.~10 minutes in 16 increments. By inputting O2 sensor voltage, the Timer can also display theoretical air fuel ratio. Since the Auto Timer uses the factory O2 sensor which is primarily designed for emissions, the readings may not be as accurate as racing air/fuel ratio monitors. The Timer can also display critical data such as O2 sensor voltage and Battery Voltage. To prevent potential theft while running, the handbrake safety feature shuts off the vehicle when the handbrake is released without the ignition key.

One questions I have, didn't know if anyone has tried it or not but would it work as a WB O2 if you used a WB O2 sensor rather than the stock sensor, or i guess it just reads the volatage of the factory one and wouldn't work with the WB O2, think i just answered my own question but anways

Re: Apexi Auto Turbo Timer ?

I am assuming, since it doesnt come with an o2 sensor that the a/f feature is probably the same thing as one of those autometer A/F meters.....meaning you watch the dancing light, and you dont get an accurate mixture ratio. Good for entertaining your friends, and maybe a cheap laugh, but almost useless compared to a real WB.

My own thought about turbo timers is, they work great...if you have a multi-thousand $$$ mAd TyT3 JDM turbo, and you want it to be in off the shelf condition forever....They are probably as usefull as the A/F meter thing if you are using a 3rd hand T-25 with "minimal" shaft play

Re: Apexi Auto Turbo Timer ?

Yea I've never been a huge Turbo timer fan but lately someties i don't have a time to sit in my car since i am never ontime for anything and it wouldnt hurt to have one and I plan on getting a new or newly rebuilt turbo eventually and wouldn't mind to have the added security...

Oh and i believe this unit would give some sort of number, like an estimated A/F ratio, not really a light show just a pretty number to look at :P

Re: Apexi Auto Turbo Timer ?

One of my friends has one, it works good as a turbo timer, but for any of its other features it works like ----. the boost guage on it is waaaaaaay off, i mean like 11.5 lbs off on a car boosting 12 lbs

Re: Apexi Auto Turbo Timer ?

The apexi one doesn't have the boost guage feature thats the Blitz DCII I believe

;D

Set both units up correctly and it will be pretty damn accurate.

Re: Apexi Auto Turbo Timer ?

yes I am using this timer in my ride and including it in all my turbo kits.

The a/r meter feature is neat. Although it's different from the infamous autometer green/yellow/red gauge because it's voltage is averaged for a more stable reading, it remains as accurate as the gauge it's kooed up to.

This apexi a/f has a function to calibrate the Voltage span of the sensor signal.
it has mostly confused me but Apparently this function allows to read all types of sensors including WIDE band sensors, which would be very nice!!
Although i did not test it myself. lazyness makes me use my techedge WB instead !

Human Turbo Timer...drive gently and out of boost the last 1-3 miles of your drive.

More oil circulation and therefore cooling is going to occur when you are driving along and maintaining a higher oil pressure than when the car is sitting there idling one would think.

Re: Apexi Auto Turbo Timer ?

Yeah that is all right though.
BY the time you drive back home slowly in the small streets, engine and turbo have plenty of time to cool down.
it'S not like you were stopping on the side of the highway immediately after some intense beating!

Re: Apexi Auto Turbo Timer ?

but some people like to do the intense beating right into their drieway. lol.

the display on that thing is tiny. using it as a W/B would be pretty difficult to do while driving, let alone while paying attention to the road while runnin the piss out of the car.... just my $.02

the picture thats posted is probably real life size.

Yea, my car isn't even daily driven so I'm probbabaly not waste the money unless i find a good deal on one, I do like snm95ls's set-up...and it seems to show fairly accutare numbes for monitoring and I believe the unit has an alarm dosen't it if your a/f g out f wack? might be a nice feature for the instance something goes worng

Re: Apexi Auto Turbo Timer ?

Unfortunately there is no alarm feature. I got it as a gift from one of my friends when I had the LS and was planning turboing it. On the LS, 3rd gen teg, I had it mounted right on the lower part of the dash bezel centered so that you could see it when you look at the guages. The calibrate button and the status LED were in the little stash compartment on the drivers side of the dash. I never got any pics of that setup though.

Re: Apexi Auto Turbo Timer ?

Hmm....you are correct, i think i was thinking about a feature on the blitz DCII...anyone good with electronics couldn't you rig up an alarm to go off at a certain voltge for the O2 sensor? Just a though, since it may be hard to see for monitoring but you coul definatley hear a the alarm? Just an idea my be more work than needed

Re: Apexi Auto Turbo Timer ?

Nah the size of the display is no issue.

This timer is easily installed anywhere in the car. You can put it right in your face and the red digits show up very clearly.
The display is the same size as the AEM UGO one btw.
