Default Anyone using copper tubing for oil supply?

Tell me if I am cruising for disaster with this one - I 'm using 1/4" copper line (like hard brake line, but more pliable) like you might use to hook up an icemaker on a fridge. This is going to be my oil supply line for my TEO4H turbo.

Before you all **** your pants with laughter, I think it'll be okay - I've made a loop in the center of the line for strain relief, and I've got a 1/16" restrictor in the line so that it's not carrying a huge amount of pressurized oil.

The only thing I worry about is fatigue in the line from sustained vibration, leading to a leak, a fire and my eventual death in a fiery ball of flame.

So give me some opinions, plz.

the only problem i see with that is on cold days where it heats up and cools(repeat process) and the vibration offcourse, but you should be fine if the line has enough give to it. but i'd still use a small rubber hose where it goes directly in to the turbo.

My friend used a copper line on his greddy turbo'd CRX for about 2 months, then changed it to braided line.

The vibrations are supposed to be the biggest thing, but I bet that it would work fine...

I have ran hundreds of feet of copper tubing for residential and commercial uses. Use it all the time for hooking up propane.

It should work just fine under low pressure, but it is very flimsy so it could kink easily. Assuming the vibrations are in check it will work out for you, but I would recommend using brake lines instead.. yes they are a bitch to bend but I run them for everything.. tranny cooler, oil cooler, fuel supply.

Your call man, but my advice is to junk that ---- and bend up some brake lines.

Oh yeah, I don't see anyone laughing at you?

just use common sense when routing it. vibrations wont be a problem as copper is very ductile

it should be ok, but if it was me I would change it as soon as posible to a flexible line, just peace of mind. 98ctr

I used a copper line on the Turbo Corolla for over 8 months, and it was fine. What I did to avoid the vibration problem is make a break in the middle of the line and connected the two sections with rubber hose. That way, each piece of copper can vibrate without any structural damage.

Another alternative to help with the stress would be to spiral the line in one spot. You ever wonder why brake lines are spiraled right under the master cylinder?

Another thing I've learned about oil lines, don't let a rubber hose come near the turbo itself, you gotta have at least 4-5 inches of tubing from the turbo if you intend to use a rubber hose, otherwise the hose will go bad over time (give it a year)

i used copper 1/4 inch line for oil feed line on my D15b2 turbo it worked great but came a problem about a month ago when it came off and my engine took a ---- and #3 piston flaked apart under boost, due to no oil in the block cause the copper line came undone from vibrations.. SO i went to my local CarQuestparts store and got 1/4" Hydrulic hose no bullshit i did and its double steel braided lines inside 3 layers of rubber. and the temp rating is to 5000 degreeze and psi rated to 4000lbs. it works great no more leakes or worries about vibrations making it loose, oh yeah totally remove your oil pressure sensor and install the hydrulic line where it was and run it straight to the turbo inlit its a clean staright through connection and no "t" fittings needed just check your oil every 3 or 4 days.. if your not beatin on your car you can get away with removing your oil pressure sensor, and for all of you who say. my light will come on all the time.. it dosent due to the sensor being a ground for the light to complete circut and light up.

peace
