Anyone use some type of coupler glue on chargepipes ?

I was reading about a S/C mustang that used, " gorilla grip " on the chargepipes to help them stay on and sealed.

Just wondering if anyone has heard of this or anything else like it.

I have heard of using cheap ass hair spray to help keep the pipes from blowing off.

dont run so many couplers :S

What psi are you running?

I would never use gorilla glue, but I would try hairspray if I ever had problems. But I don't.

Bead the end of your pipes.

for a quick fix on one of my couplers I just used alittle gel super glue. fixed the problem.

Re: Anyone use some type of coupler glue on chargepipes ?

I don't have any issues with the pipes coming off, but every bit helps when your making 400whp with a mistu TD04 turbo. Even small boost leaks drain power, essp. when your maxing the turbo out.

I just read it in a mustang magizine, and had me thinking. I might use a bit of "aquanet" hair spray next time I have the turbo off. My buddy has a SVO mustang and says it works well.

I used to use aquanet hairspray in my potato gun for a fuel/propellant. Read the first 3 or 4 ingredients, you'll laugh and know why it makes a good fuel.

I used 3m spray adhesive. It held good up to 20psi with worm clamps and no beads. Above 20 they started to slip off.

Yea, I think the heat gets to the 3m stuff. I spike 23psi, hold about 17-18psi.
I spend hours boost leak testing...

Quit ordering shitty $80 eBay pipe kits that aren't bead rolled.

I use factory piping... There's a difference between not blowing off, and not leaking...

get t-bolts.

Re: Anyone use some type of coupler glue on chargepipes ?

just take pliers and make the end of the charge pipe a little bigger, like a bell end (nothing way over the top, just somthing that will prevent the clamp from coming off)

Never heard of hairspray, but hair gel works great.

weld a peice of steel oer the couplers

Re: Anyone use some type of coupler glue on chargepipes ?

eliminating as many as possible is what I would do. You should only have 4 couplers if possible. Other than that, clean pipes, silicone couplers, and t-bolt clamps should be good to go.

Re: Anyone use some type of coupler glue on chargepipes ?

just use t bolt clamps and you will be fine. unless you are using a gt42 at 50 psi you should have no issues.
I am running fairly big turbo at 23 psi full throttle no blown couplers. just get the clamps

my setup, tight piping, 4 couplers from home depot with gear clamps. held 30psi strong

A td04??? You mean 2 td04's right??? 15g's ?

I've always used hairgel, seems to work better than hairspray.

If your using t-bolts and hairgel with a bead on the pipe,or rolled lip, and still blowing pipes off, then you have a serious problem. If I got to that point and was STILL blowing pipes off, I might consider if my bov was functioning properly, or if I had it set too stiff, or if my bov line wasnt going straight to the intake manifold.....

hairspray worked for me untill 15psi. then thats when it pops. but i don't mind, my built in boost cut O0

No.. I mean a single TD04LR on a 2.4L Ran 11.94 in a 3145LBS. FWD car... That's without the bottle/100shot. The car makes 375-380whp/425TQ in cool air and 430whp/appox 530TQ on the bottle ( its 100shot, but I loose a lot of via b/c I'm forced to turn the timing down and run a safer AFR ). The bottle torque numbers are calulated as it wouldn't get traction on street tires on the dyno until way after peak torque ( makes peak torque at 2900rpms ). It was a superflow mustang dyno...

Its one of 3 SRT4s to run 11's on the TD04 without nitrous. I did it on the stock clutch, full weight, stock chargepipes, stock TB, stock intake, stock air intake, stock head, stock cams, stock pullies, stock cam gears, stock suspention, still no returnline system.

Since then, I've added a clutch, cam gears, and a couple other things. I hope to run 11.69-11.79 on the motor and 11.4x on the bottle...

I need to update my sig etc. I don't own the stealth or the turbo civic anymore ( sold the civic Saturday ).

Lol thought it was on a stealth. Damn good numbers for that turbo...and on a mustang dyne too! Post up your dyno sheet I'd love to see the torque curve on that thing!

Dyno pics/sheets
http://new.photos.yahoo.com/maximum_...60762344741539

300whp/381 on pump gas ( this is the graph, you can see at the end the PCM pulls timing at about 5200rpms )
345/407TQ on race gas
409/505TQ ( pretty such this was calulated TQ wise) on the bottle

At these ^^^^ were on the stock Intercooler. I'd see 185degree IATs, and upto 216degrees on the dyno. The shop was so hot, we had to ICE the nitrous bottle down b/c it was at 1400psi when I opened it.

Anyway, with the new IC, on a 75degree night, I can see 70-72degrees with meth. injection.

This was on the motor/turbo, no nitrous. The turbo was done, I was missing about 5psi at redline. I had put a spark plug through the turbo a few weeks back, and the imbalenced turbo was finally giving up.

That's man. I used to street race the car weekly, and we pretty much had a crew that would come out, but are camera man dropped out, I had another baby, and I bought a street bike, so I took about 6 months off after it ran 11.94 off the bottle.

But now, I'm back, and I finally addressed the weak link ( the stock clutch ), and I'm getting the car whipped back into shape. I spray'd the car last night for the first time in about 5-6months. I likes it, hehe.

I like the supra video. Really shows how well a dyno queen fairs against something with a good powerband on the street. I just agreed to race the guy, I didn't know what was done to it. We stop for gas and someone tells me its got all this stuff ( cams T-76 turbo etc etc etc ) and I'm like " why in the hell am I racing a fully modded surpa from a roll ? ", but I did it anyway and one :o

I wish I had more videos of some of the cool cars I've lost to ( Sc300-T, couple of built Z06s N/A, and a 589whp cobra got me by a car ).

Neon sure is a fun car. If the motor blew up, tranny broke, and the turbo fell of tomorrow, I couldn't complain about the car. All those videos are on the stock clutch. I've replaced CV axle boots and that's it !!! My wife drives it to work everyday...

Only issues I have is traction on DRs ( biggest I can run is a 235/55/15 ), and its an octane -----. Its power can literlly change 75whp from pump gas to race gas. Even meth. injection only gets me so far.

Anyway, hope everyone enjoys the videos. I started with a HMT SOHC 89' civic, I'm going to miss it....
