Anyone ever try turboing a probe gt....

I'm speaking of 2nd gens of course...first gen gt's are stock turbo
But i was thinking about getting one just as a project car, i would keep my daily driver and then just work on this one whenever i have the time...I've looked into it and it seems that there is a real big issue with space and i was wondering if anyone knows anyone who has tried it and knows how difficult it would be.
Thanks in advance for any responces.

Re: Anyone ever try turboing a probe gt....

well most of the people who turbo probes move the battery to the trunk and even then it is still pretty tight but it frees up a lot of room

it'd probably be easier to twin turbo that ---- since its a v6 but it's an ---- probe so I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I have seen one turbo'd, it was a pretty elaborate set up from what I remember and the guy claimed to be making almost 400HP. Not worth the effort IMO though.

for your info a probe v6 gt five speed is faster than a integra gsr five speed .. not sayn i like them but they do have potential yes you can turbo them alot of people have but i would just buy the old skool probe turbo .. 2.4 litre with a ihi its a nice setup and those little motors can handle some abuse (p.s. dont make me show you stats) ;)

see...for a while i always thought they were and then i picked one up for dirt cheap and needless to say i loved it, i ended up selling it because it had around 150k miles on it to buy a saab, but now i wanna get another one and i have seen some people who have turbo'd them and they have some nice poetential
yea...the most common placement of the turbo(well atleast the easiest way) requires you to modify the crossmember and then unless you somehow sneak a sidemount in there has you running your charge pipes back across the front of the engine to go to the intake manifold, so i wanna look into it a little more

These cars turboed are quick as hell, My buddy owns this, he's a very smart guy, everything was rebuilt, the engine has full aftermarket internals and everything was fabbed by him.

This thing is nuts, last year he was running 12.6 on slicks, this year its getting some more work done and he hopes to be in the 11's.

Ya, but from what I've heard the engines maybe fast but reliable as ----. They were complete lemons. I have a a few freinds who have had them (Probes and MX-6 same motor) and the engines couldn't take a beating in any way!

That is what i always heard...i beat the ---- out of my car and it was still going strong at 150k, i have a friend with a PGT and his is still running great at 140k, so i dunno if i just got lucky or what...

My first car was a 93 GT 5speed and it was quick but I beat the crap out of it and it blew up at about 140,000.

Get one and throw a sho v6 in it. There's some guy on HT building one to compete in SFWD.

damn that probe is pretty sweet.

OOO, SHO motor in a probe gt would be cool!!!

I never really did mind the styling, just afriad of the reliabilty. My hondas take an ass raping EVERYDAY and the keap the bearings in place and compression solid.

That setup is sick!

I would probably expect better times from it with that kind of a setup though.

yo can anyone tell me how much 1 of those v6 motors weigh?

Re: Anyone ever try turboing a probe gt....

the lkze 2.5 v6 dohc has been known to make 400hp eazily with a t4. i seen one at the corksports meeting last year and the turbo was located practaly under the motor with an external wastegate. the motor is extrememly light and has been the heart of many motor swaps. there are even some second gen escorts with the klze swap. they run mid 14's stock n/a. its a prety ballzy mid revving motor with massive potential.

klze <----vtec this!!

Re: Anyone ever try turboing a probe gt....

i love my pgt and i wouldnt trade it for ----. . . . . they're finally coming out with aftermarket support. . . a lil late yes but hey i won't complain. . . .ummm i'm thinkin dan (sac) from probetalk.com is runnin an 11.7 or something like that with a 75 shot and a klze with some work. . . . idk i do like how much cheaper it is to have a hatch. . . . but when i run my probe i shift at 7300 and i don't know many v6's that take that all the time. . . . a fidanza and a UD pulley rev fast as ---- and pull hard all the way. . . .anyways enough with my ranting that probe is sexy. . . . :-* to you sexy probe

Kurt91CRX 05-21-2005 09:43 AM

Re: Anyone ever try turboing a probe gt....

Ya I had a KLZE probe before the CRX and it ran a 14.6@95 with just a swap and I/E. I then threw a 75 shot on it and it really woke up, but I ended up gettin in a fender bender and selling it before I ran with the NOS setup.
My only problem was with the transmissions, went through 3 of them within a year or so. Damn ACT clutch and solid motor mounts might have helped too.

isnt it dyno proven that those things practically do nothing??? except snap from an UD pulley set, how much weight are you really losing?? doesnt seem like a practical buy.

my_qd 05-22-2005 05:27 AM

Re: Anyone ever try turboing a probe gt....

true it's not going to make a dyno difference. . . but that's not where the difference lays what it's doing is spooling faster because it's saving the weight off of the pulley. . . just like when u get a lighter flywheel it's taking all that mass off ur crank and helping spool soo much faster. . .and it's putting u in ur powerband quicker. . . .like a stock pgt flywheel is 22 lbs i believe and the fidanza is 9lbs u do the math

DeleriouS 05-22-2005 09:50 PM

Re: Anyone ever try turboing a probe gt....

well i have one and i really didnt see a differnece...
