anyone else had this coolant problem?

i have a d16z6, w/ t25, and when i get on it my coolant will begin to fill up my resevoir and sometimes overflow with pressure, but in normal driving it never does that, my temperature is always at normal operating temp, and both the top and lower radiator hose is hot meaning i know coolant is going through there even sitting still the temp stays the same, im just wondering am i losing fluid, or should i put some water wetter in the coolant system and maybe get a mugen cap to raise the pressure? what do yall think?

there is another thread on here that talked about a leak in the head gasket causing exhaust gasses to flow into the coolant. Consider something like that. are you overheating?

I would just replace the cap with a regular one and see what happens.

no overheating at all, whether im sitting still,or regular driving or having it floored, even when this happens it still never fluctuates at all, but this only happens when i get on it, is it possible that the boost is forcing the coolant out of the head?? that cant be good can it? but ill try a new cap this weekend, theyre only like $10 so not a big deal, im sure it good use a new one anyways

Re:anyone else had this coolant problem?

my crx started doing this and then as time went on it would start to get hot when i floored it. eventually it got so bad that it would get hot if you revved it just a little bit. it was a head gasket problem. the nonvtec motors (i know yours is vtec) came with a 'fiber' style gasket, kinda looks like gray paper. this gasket has been replaced with a 4 layer steel style. have your honda parts guys search the TSB's for 'head gasket' and you'll get the correct replacement gasket. as far as the z6 doing this, i'd check for traces of combustion gases in the coolant. Blue Point makes a cool tester for just this purpose. it looks like a syringe that sucks the air just above the coolant in your radiator and has a fluid that changes color if there is a trace. anyway, it sounds like you are in the beginning stages of a head gasket failure.

i could be wrong, but it's a place to check

your parts list = intake manifold gasket
Maybe valve cover gaskets
92-95 MLS vtec gasket
APR head studs.

possible shaving the head is needed.

BTW my car runs anywhere from 6psi to 13psi and I've seen it hit 16psi and guess what head gasket I'm using ?? good ole crx head gasket. with head studs of course.

My car never get any "knock" either, good ole 8.4/1 compression.

i didnt mention that this doesnt happen all the time, ive only seen it once before but this particular time i got on second and third pretty good, up to about 85 (around 8psi) and turned onto my road and i could smell coolant, i pulled over saw it not really spraying into the overflow but steeming around the overflow cap and i saw a couple drips of coolant on the ic piping directly under it, i stood there for about 45 seconds and it calmed down and drove it about 2 miles on home and checked it again as soon as i got there and nothing, everyhing looked normal....dont know if that makes a difference in your opinions but maybe

its your head gasket!! My car was doing the same thing yours is doing now... same symtoms...no overheating but coolant resivor would fill up or overflow when driven hard... i still havn't fixed mine yet but its getting worse everyday... ;D i have to fill up my radiator about a cup every other day. in my situation i think it was a combination of reusing head bolts and a fiber head gasket in mini-me swap.

i have a 95 civic d16z6 and mine is doing the same thing. i had the car boosted for about a 5 weeks and ---- started happening so i took it off. this is one of the things...about a month later(after the turbo was off) it was still doing it i didnt know what the problem was. but now my car is detonating and the motor at an idle sounds like ----. could the head gasket possibly be the problem for all of this?

Re:anyone else had this coolant problem?

I just got my car boosted and after the first drive I realized my coolant resevoir was cracked and water spewed everywhere. First time it did that. But my radiator did get a big crack along the plastic piece, I jb'd it up. Think this is a headgasket as well? Car doesn't overheat though I have to keep refilling coolant every once an a while.
