anybody experienced with twin wastegate setups?

Hey i have seen it done on the lancer EVO8:
(not sure who did that but it's nice work)
http://www.geocities.com/blaast97sh/twinscroll.jpg
i am sure it can be done on other engines too!

Anybody experienced in doing this??
I know regrouping cly 1&4 and 2&3 together can reduce lag but by how much??

Re: anybody experienced with twin wastegate setups?

if you got a split flange then you can do that but on a 4-1 collector just get 1 big one

On a 4 into 1 I've been told they pulse and fight each other. Split it would work.

Re: anybody experienced with twin wastegate setups?

like said before thats an AMS product its rediculously nice, as for having twin gates you need to have a split scroll/split inlet turbo as well as a split collector for it to be anything worthwhile, but if done correctly you can pick up a pretty good chunk of powerband (400+ rpm). Also you will need to run a t4 exhaust side because i only know of a select few t3 hot sides that use the split scroll design...

unless you have 1000+hp two wg is not neccessary.

Re: anybody experienced with twin wastegate setups?

on a 4-1 if one gate is not enough, I would add the second set like 1-2psi higher. I think that might make them work alright, since the one would need to be completely open with boost still building before the other would begin to open.

Re: anybody experienced with twin wastegate setups?

twin gates are only necessary if you can't get boost levels low enough.

hotrex 08-12-2006 04:54 AM

Re: anybody experienced with twin wastegate setups?

when you cant get them low enough that means your manifold design is a pile of ----.

you should never need more than one wg bigger than 44mm tial.

unless your running a split collector and then id use 2 38s

if you fucksticks look noce and close youll notice that that manifold does in fact have a split collector so the 2 wgs are necesary.

god most of you faggots are so stupid.

Hey Guys! Thanks for the comments !!!

THat's nothing new, twin scroll turbines have been around forever but if i understand well, to properly use a twin scroll turbine, you should separate the runners of each cycle of the engine to minize the backdraft that travels back to the non-firing runners at each engine cycle. These backdraft movements are certainly responsible for LAG but in which proportion, I have no idea and I can't wait to find out.

ok I decided to give it a shot myself and make my own twin wastegate manifold right now to mount a gt3582R on an all forged H22! I thought that it didn't have to look like something I, or anybody, ever saw. >:D
I am not 100% done, still have the ceramic coating to go, but here's where i am at!

Anyone talking ---- about AMS is retarded. Being that they hold the record for the fastest street car in the world and the highest HP Evo's in the world says engough. They have a fleet of nine second evos.
