Any S-dimes here?

Hey everyone...I am interested in doing my own custom turbo setup for my 99 GMC Sonoma. Its got the Vortec 2200 motor in it and I am planning on keeping the internals stock. The compression ratio is roughly 9:1 and ive heard that sort of compression is good for a turbo and my stock internals can handle up to 7 or 8 psi boost. Before I go into any more details and making more of an ass of myself by spouting out falsities of what i think i know about turbos...has anyone done a custom job on the Vortec 2.2 motor? Things like fuel system mods/custom exhaust manifolds/best suited turbos...?

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!

A.J.

Do a search. I remember someone did a turbo S-10 awhile back. This was at least a year ago. If you can't find it using the HMT search, use google to do a site search for it.

Re:Any S-dimes here?

Alright, thanks for the maps platanazo64...CRX...i did a search yesterday and saw a thread about the guy who set up his turbo on the s-10...but he didnt say what kind of turbo he had on it...it was just about his fuel managment. Speaking of fuelmanagement...my stock injectors are high-impedance 14lb. injectors and ive heard of guys just slapping on high-imp 28lb GM 3800 series injectors and running OK...but idleing like ---- (flooding out). What do you..or anyone else..think would be a good fuel managment system that i can just piggyback or tap into my existing system with? (I will most likely go with the 28lb. injectors+ a fuel managment program...)

Thanks,
A.J.

allright..i found that guy who put the turbo on his gen-I s-10 with the 2.5L motor. LOL sounds like he screwed some ---- up though. Thanks for your help guys.

Do a search on here and Honda-Tech for AFC Hack. That would probably be your best bet unless your ECM can be re-programed, I'm not familiar with Chevy ECM's though.

K cool....anything as to what kind of turbo might work the best for my truck? I am a novice at reading alot of these values. Like i said...a turbo with an internal wastegate that allows about 7-8psi is what im looking for...i know that they used to put some sort of mitsubishi turbo on the cyclones and typhoons (suped up gen-I s-trucks) but that was on the 4.3 i beleive...

thanks,
A.J.

Try looking at old Ford Thunderbird turbos; if I were you I would be looking for a turbo from a car with similar displacement as yours. I think they are gated at 7-8 psi also.

Re:Any S-dimes here?

that motor will handle hella more than 8psi and some internal gates are good up to 15psi. For a turbo, it depends on how much you want to spend. Is that motor a 4 or 6 cylinder?

Re:Any S-dimes here?

My room mate has an S10 with a tiny ass V6 in it. It's a 2.something. It looks smaller than my 1.6 Honda motor.

I've got the big 4.3 V6 and -0- plans on boosting it. Ugliest ------- truck evAr and traction is an unknown mysterious phenomenon. I had a little run-in with the neighbors today and did a gigantic smokey burnout after almost beating the ---- out of this ------- down the street for trying to play security and tell me I'm exceeding the posted speed limit. Those are the only times I like the massive lack of traction the S10 has.

From what I know the GM computer is VERY chippable. I know of one guy (sean88Accord) who is running a GM ECU with boost. He knows how the ---- it works, but he doesn't post here that often. I think he's on 3geez? I dunno? It's very possible. You just have to talk to the right people.

I'm not being a smartass I just asked a question and you acted like it was something stupid to ask. And that red car is a Mazda MX3

www.grapeaperacing.com

this will show you how to read compressor maps. that way you dont pick out a turbo that is way too large, which is often the case....

Allright man, thanks alot! Ill check into those things. So if my ECM is programmable...then i wouldnt have to worry about going with a fuelmanagement upgrade? I was thinking about putting on some oversized injectors and messing around with the fuel PSI at the certain revs (to keep from flooding out at idle)...but all with using an FMU. Im relatively new to the fuel management stuff..thats the biggest gray area for me right now...and yes...my 2.2L is a 4 cylinder. My buddy has a 2.8L V6 in his Gen-I s-10, which is pretty small. Think of this...i think the mid-late 90's twin turboed indycars had between 2 and 3 litres of displacement but were V8s!...correct me if im wrong...

thanks!

Fuel management is the most important part of a turbo kit. If your ECU is programmable, than you need to learn how to program it

The pinnacle of F1 turbochraging was 87' where the cars were around 1.5L V6's. The Honda RA167E was the most sucessful FI motor. After 87' they than had to downgrade to NA V10's and haven't went back to turbos since than

Probably a bunch of metal.

Re:Any S-dimes here?

Probably like super huge bores and pistons shorter than your pinky so they can rev to kingdom come!

Re:Any S-dimes here?

They revved to about 14500-15000 rpm's not that much and for F1 all turbocharged cars weren't allowed to exceed 1.5L
They banned turbo's from F1 after the late 80's it got to dangerous.
Now everyone is running 3.0L V10's and V12's revving to almost 20,000 I know ferrari rev's to 19,000 + rpm's
