Another wastegate actuator question.

Ok, I just tested my internal wastegate actuator with a air line, presure gauge and a valve. The actuator arm didn't start to move until 5psi...but didnt open all of the way(or until it wouldn't go any more) until about 18 or 20 psi.

My question is, what boost is my actuator set at??? If it started to open up at 5psi would it bleed off exhaust and stop making boost after 5psi?? Or would boost pressure continue to build until it opened up that flapper arm to a certin point??

Thats normal.. remember you cant factor in the pressure that is behind the wastegate flapper trying to push it open at the same time the WG is opening. I think most wastegates I test open around 4~6ish (just start to crack open) and fully open at 15ish. You should be fine.

I'm sure the actuator is working fine...i'm just curious how much boost will I be making?? I always thaught that it would just open all of the way up at a certin pressure...but this is more varible.

Re:Another wastegate actuator question.

well, im not exactly sure if i know what i am talking about but here goes...
imagine you were blowing through a straw and the hole was plugged by your finger.. if you move your finger completely off you would instantly run out of steam (you cant blow forever...im sure saying that will come back to haunt me..lol) if you however release the pressure on your finger by slowly opening it that would keep you at a constant pressure..

this is what i think it should do.
