Default Is this another turbo thats gone to turbo heaven????????????????

Ok so i was driving yesturday during the day and everything is normal, boosted and driving nice....then later on in the afternoon...there was a little car meet and i thought i would drive by and give them a little BOV music...well i herd nothing...just a loud hisssssing sound, no power, no boost! so i pull over and look under and nothing is out of wack... but i look under and it looks like my flex pipe has been rubbing alot and it might now have a hole in it.....So i think, that explains the hisssing sound, but that couldnt make my turbo not build boost, can it?? So i drive home like a little girl who just lost her favorite doll, and try to loook tomorrow.

Tomorrow comes inspect the set up and notice to of the bottom studs on the manifold flange at the head are broken...the nust gone and everything....and then i look at the flex pipe and its frayed a bit and not even broke all the way....so i think its def. the exhaust leak from the mani thats making the noise....

Now will those two studs beeing busted prevent me from seeing anyboost at all I hope they just broke becuase they were torque to much...

thanks guys

I would have to say yes and no. If you have a big turbo it could be enough for it not to spool, on a smaller turbo it just take a longer time to spool it.

replace them and find out. sounds more like a blown off charge pipe though

Pretty much "ditto", but rest assure yes the manifold leak is your problem and reason for no boost. Use loctite for the studs, but DON'T loctite the nuts onto the studs. Just replace them and torque them down to factory spec in a cross pattern. OEM torque is 27ft/lbs I believe.

Why do you get full boost so late with a hybrid on a B16?

I have full boost well before then with a 63/60 T3/T04B 'S'-Trim, but real power isn't made until 5500rpms or so. 10psi is around 4800rpm or so I'd say still though, you have leaks.

well just took the car for a ride after fixing the studs and that...and when i first took off there was a little pull and the boost gauge was moving, i think it went up to maybe 4psi and i heard the BOV then after that...nothing..no power at all...just slugish....and i can here a gaspy type of sound....

Is there a way to check if the turbo is screwed before ripping it all apart again The intercooler piping is all good, all hoses are good...I'm puzzeld.

you have leaks some where after you build boost.. check again for holes in your couplers, blown off charge pipe, and even the wastegate to make sure its operating correctly..

once you have removed all exhaust and boost leaks, if spoolup still feels too slow, Maybe should you try the stage 1½ turbine wheel. it does make a good improvement on spool up.
