another turbo got locked up
so while im waiting for my new 16g to come in the mail i temporalry put a 14b on it. and just like the 16g it locked up. but its getting oil. anyone know whats up? did i just have bad luck with 2 turbo's or is something else bad?

How did you check to see it's getting oil? Oil is dripping out of the lfeedline? Maybe your oilline is isn't clogged but could be caked up or something? Killing a 14B is like killing a sohc..dime a dozen.

Pull your oildrain and start the car for a sec. See if any oil comes out. Seems kinda weird to have two turbos do the exact same thing if the 14 was working before.

so you guys thinking its a oil problem? i know its getting oil bc when i pulled the 16g off to put the 14b on there was alot oil in the feed line and when i pulled the return it was dripping.

make an offer. does anyone know what else could make a ------- turbo lock up? oil is getting to the turbo. im scared to put my new 16g on the car bc it will lock up too

Made a piece of teflon to seal the lines got into the oil line? Like mentioned before, I'd pull the oil drain and make sure oil is running right. Is your drain as short as it could be

my drain has a slight kink. but its very short. i was told tonight by some dsm'er which should know about 16g's and they said if i dont have a good crank ventialtion system would cause some pressure to go back into the turbo and make it lock up. both the ones that have locked up are now spinning free again with a little more shaftplay than before

I imagine you have your pcv connected to a hose off the block or something and not to the intake... Thats good ventilation

nope. im running stock pvc system. and catch can lines off the valve cover. could me not running water lock these fuckers up?

So you have air pressurizing the manifold and from the manifold back through a little hose into the stock pcv (blowing the check valve backwards), and then blowing into your crankcase?

People run themn just oil cooled all the time, but I don't think they're pushing them to 20+. I'd say it's unlikely, but it very well could be. You should take your blown one apart and see where the damage is. They come with 360 degree thrust bearings stock and have a pretty large cooling slit and oil passage to the thrust bearing, but maybe the added heat is causing problems. I have no facts and it's all speculation, but it could be. Are you using any sort of RTV or sealant on your feedline?

I took the hose that goes from the top of the pcv to the manifold and cut it. Put a bolt in that same hose on the manifold to plug it, and then put another hose on the pcv and pointed it at the ground. So now air can come out of the crankcase like its supposed to... You can do it other ways or use a catch can, whatever. But you should have that crankcase vented somehow. Cars used to just have a hose dangling down before emissions requirements forced them to vent the crank back into the intake to help burn off any extra fumes.
Double check you have oil coming out the return before you bolt everything up and post some pics of it or something |

If it can't drain and the oil sits there, it might coke on the bearing. Eventually coking on the bearing will cause it to sieze.

but would all this happend in an hour of boosting alot? the 16g was boosted while my car was being tuned. and the 14b was driven on for like 2 days with only a few pulls.
