Amount of boost without intercooler???
How much boost can a turbo handle without an intercooler???( a T-bird IHI turbo for example) Or does it matter what type of turbo?? This would be on a D16z6....or does the engine matter as well?

Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
Don't be stupid, just buy an intercooler.
|
Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
or you can go water injection
|
Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
The junkyard is your friend I got mine for 10 bucks.

Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
I agree.....I want an intercooler.......but I have to wait 2 weeks until i get my paycheck and I want to hook up everything so it will be less time when I do get it! So how much boost can I run without running into any overheating problems?
|
Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
you can hook it up but you will have to redo the charge pipes again when you put the ic on, kinda a pita.
its not a matter of overheating but pinging, just hook it up and listen for it, if it is lower the boost. |
Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
with the t-bird IHI, don't go more than 16psi unless you want it to blow up. Ive gone 20psi without an intercooler in my car with no probs :)

Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
yeah, but i don't think you did that on a honda d series engine like he is asking about
|
Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
It seemed like he was just asking about the turbo in general.
|
Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
We dont have the 2.3l ford love, that can boost 20psi without an intercooler ;)
highest I would boost without an IC on a honda would be 8psi, and thats with some nice fuel/spark management. homemade water injection is another option. Jeff |
Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
Well I am getting an intercooler here but the only thing is piping seems really expensive..........200 bucks on ebay!! Is there any way to get it cheaper? Making it or going to the junkyard??
|
Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
Go to a local muffler shop and walk around back. There will be tones of old mufflers laying around with the original exhaust piping probably. Much of this will be mandrel bent piping that you can use. Dont waste your money on ebay.
|
Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
That would be the ugliest mess of piping I could ever imagine. I guess if it saves you money. :-X

Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
you didnt want to pay for a cheap intercooler but willing to spend 200 on piping :-\
i just went to a muffler shop and asked for some scrap. pointed me to the dumpster and said help yourself. there was a bunch of goodies including some clean 2.25" piping. then today i stopped by this welding place and they gave me some thick plates for free. im a happy camper ;D |
Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
Cool....thanks for all the tips.....this will definitly save $$$..........also you wouldn't happen to know exactly what pipes I will need for a civic coupe? What I mean is what angles will I need the pipes bent......2 at 45 degree...2 at 90 degree?? If anyone knows this or where I would look that would be great!!

Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???

Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
Buy through JC Whitney, they have mandrel bent piping, I forgot the part #'s, but I ended up spending like $70 shipped. Wells worth the money! 8)

Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
Go to summit racing, and they have mandrel bent pipes for ten buck 90 degree bends in all sizes, also straight ones too, aluminized steel, no rust, cut it how you want it.
|
Re:Amount of boost without intercooler???
i paid about 60-75 bucks for all my piping including gettin it welded and it looks pretty decents. amazing what a little paint can do. order mandrel u bends from road race engineering(rre) there like 15-18 dollars each.just figure out how many youll need first
