All D-Series Oil Pans...

Are all D-series oil pans the same? I didn't think so, but my buddy offered me one for only $10. I asked if it will fit my y8 and he said it'll fit any D-series. Any validity to that statement? Thanks fellas!

For example, I have a Y7 or 8 oil pan on my Z6 and i'm taking it off tomorrow, The problem is where the block meets the pan under the crank pulley, the Y oil pans have a bigger U bend to go around the crank seal housing on the oil pump side (hope everyone knows what i'm talking about)

anyhow, if you take a Y pan and try to bolt it to a Z6 of a A6 or anything other than a Y you will have a pretty big gap out of which you will leak oil, and its no fun leaking oil and getting dust and ---- inside the gap. when I built my engine I had it out of the car and was able to silicone the gap the first time, but after its in the car there is no room to get in there with silicone. also you will have to redrill 2 holes for the oil pan to bolt on rirectly, another thing is there is a aluminum cylinder inside the pan which does absolutly nothing and you will need to use a dremel with a cutter and take that off.

Do you want to get rid of that oil pan?

Re: All D-Series Oil Pans...

yep these guys are right. You cannot directly bolt up a z6 oilpan to a y motor.

Take a magnet with you. Y8 pans are Aluminum.

samson 05-12-2005 01:39 PM

Re: All D-Series Oil Pans...

Yea. If you don't mind post the pic of the 2 oil pans. Aluminum huh? The only series that was aluminum? So the magnet sticks = no good. Doesn't stick = buy it. Do I got it right?

Re: All D-Series Oil Pans...

the y8 pans are unpainted cast aluminum, trust me, you'll know it when you see it.

Re: All D-Series Oil Pans...

y8 pans are not painted black. They look like cast aluminum.

Re: All D-Series Oil Pans...

not ALL y series pans are aluminum.

the difference is the width of the holes around the crank at the oil pump, the oil pumps are different, therefore the oil pan has to be different.

ive seen plenty of d16y's with steel pans, which still will not bolt to a d15, or d16z.

Re: All D-Series Oil Pans...

I can look under my car and see it is cast aluminum. So would that mean I need a cast aluminium one or if his was the steel like FooK said would it still work? I might be down that way today so let me know fellas. Thanks for all the replies and help to guys I apperciate it!

Only a Y7 STEEL or Y8 ALUMINUM pan will fit.
