That would be the best idea. I run a short cone filter, maybe 3" in length. If you don't even have room for something like that I'd say your only option would probably be a few layers of metal screen to keep out the big stuff :-\

Ive got abnout 5-6inches in length, but only about an inch to the power steering bracket.. thats with a 2.5" pipe... ill take a pic and more measurements.. so far i have two layers of screen...

Do those carb filters have some good metal structure to them? If I were to buy one I would probably buy the last one with the chrome endcap, as it seems it's not just a sock and it probably has some support in it. I don't know, but like gen4acclude said a car engine especially with a turbo will pull in alot more air than a dirtbike carb.

btw, do take a pic.

Re: air filter

you could run it with the two layers of screen you have now with pantyhoes sandwhich between them that good for like 10 microns

Re: air filter

ya the panty hoes idea was tried by a buddy, a few days later it wasnt there, too hot and its just burned up...

in my case i used a whitey bend 90degres to clear the frame. It was impossible to fit a k&n filter or a u-bend.
