Ah crap cross-threaded spark plug hole D16Z6
 

Is there any way to fix this without pulling the head? First time removing the plugs on this beast and #1 is boogered up but doesnt lose compression or anything. Getting a new plug back in was a chore.

The plug is in there just fine right now but now I'm in the tuning process and am probably gonna foul out the plugs once or twice so I'd like to know what my options are, if any.

ugh that sucks...I've heard of using a helicoil to fix that but never used one myself...look up some info on how thats done and that shold give you an answer but I think the safest way to repair would involve removing the head :-\

To use a helocoil you need to remove the head because you will be drilling/tapping the new thread.

My question is, can you use a helocoil on a spark plug hole? will it withstand the pressure?

Everytime i hear of this situation thats the common repair...I always use never-seize on my spark plug threads ;)

Same here. I have the big jar of the gray kind. Always use it on plugz and lugz and anything else thats prone to rust like suspension bolts, etc.

You could try running a tap through the threads to see if you can save them. You can chance it with the head on and try sucking it out with a vaccum as you go, but most of the time the head is taken off. :-\

Yeah good idea. Does anyone know what the thread/pitch is for a spark plug?

ummm im pretty sure they sell thread chasers specifically for spark plug threads

Ok when you run the tap, smear wheel bearing grease on the tap- the shavings stick to the grease! My friends dad recommended this to me as I just tapped out my oil pan while it was still in the car, and the grease worked great- all the shavings came out stuck to the tap.
