Aftermarket ECU Chips
 

Has anyone ever used these before... The dude who is trying to sell me one says he can program it to tell my ECU that the MAP sensor isnt reading boost... and that the fuel curve gets amplified to compensate for boost... I know this is nothing like a Zdyne or HonData ECU... but i dont have that kinda cash burning a hole in my pocket... This is just a picggy back socket E-prom chip[. He says he can program it to work well withing the 5-10PSI range... i told him to set it at 6.5 wich is what my wastegate is set to... has anyone ever tried this.. if so what are your results...

I have never tried it, but I will give you my thoughts.. First off, how will the ecu Not see boost? If the map sensor is going to read it, the voltage will go over 3.0v and make a CEL happen. (unless you are using check valves) Setting the fuel curve.. now what exactly does he mean? He is chipping the computer to pulse the injectors faster (for the stock 240cc injectors) so it will enrichen the fuel mixture when running boost correct? That's great, it will work for low boost levels and all, but later on lets say you want to get some "Bigger" injectors out of a DSM, some 450s or 380s. Now if you try to do the AFC/SMC hack its going to be a bitch, Because your going to be running incredibly rich, because your chip is set to pulse 240cc injectors at probably their max duty cylce. Timing, most guys who "chip ecus" give alot of extra timing in the spark map, and this isnt what you want at all in a turbo map. I hope he is using the stock spark map, or has backed the timing down somehow..

you should look into the dastek unichip, a programmable piggyback ecu... obviously not as good as a proper stand alone but much better than a "phat chip"

or the ERL mf2 which is a stand alone fuel injector driver, capable of driving 4 injectors in 2d or 3d mode..

Chip it not to 'read' boost??

Your MAP sensor will read any changes in manifold pressure and tell the ECU accordingly (up to it's pressure limit, 1 to 2 bar usually). If he's checkvalving it (which ain't software!) then the ECU will read the maximum available value for the manifold pressure regardless of the boost condition - it will then (if you're on boost) only fuel the correct amount for you not being on boost - which means you'll run dangerously lean and probably melt a piston or four.

Best way to run a setup like that would be to run a 5th injector to squirt fuel in, and use the ERL MF2 to drive it off a pressure switch. When the pressure switch activates (say at 7psi), and the car is at 3/4 throttle or WOT, then have the injector squirt fuel directly into the inlet manifold to richen the mixture to lessen detonation.

No map sensor, major fuelling/timing changes required!

Split second has a controller to add injectors, I recently saw the setup on a supercharged/intercooled S2000, and they stuck the injectors right in front of the throttle body on the charge tube.
