Default afriad of over boosting... external wastegate

i got a turbonetics external wastegate with the red (9psi) spring in it... when i take off its like mad boost WOOOOSHHHHHHH then pshhhhhhh... since its a 9psi wastegate it should open when it hits 9psi right? regardless to what turbo im using it should open at 9 correct? well i take it down the road and get on it. the gauge reads that im boosting well over 9 psi... matter a fact it goes to the end of the gauge. once it goes to the end of the gauge it starts puttering which is kinda gay cuz its like fast fast then ffttttt no more... its like it loses boost but still says im boosting. and since its a 9psi spring even tho the gauge says im boosting more then i shouldn't go passed that no matter what right? im jus scared cuz the boost jumps hella quick and i dont feel like doing a motor swap. suggestions anyone?

Motor Grim reaper is knockin at your door. Get ready to open it up.....

OR.....

Get a shotgun and shoot through the door.

Heres why its cutting out. You are either

A) running so freaking lean the motor is just dying out cause of no fuel.
B)that stuttering you hear is detonation/preignition/knock/whatever you want to call it. Its like ------- a fat chick without a condom-
C) if your motor is still running by the time you read this, get your reading skills up , cause I recommend you read alot on honda-tech about booting, read even more here about tunning, turbo set-ups, and the dos and donts about a force fed vehicle.

If you need to drive your car, do not boost LiKe mAd yO. UnLeSs yOU waNt tO bE TakIng ThE bUs HomE. YOU DIG?

good luck,

You'll need it.

he was asking why his wg isn't opening at 9 psi, not how to put a turbo on his vtech civic y0, or how much he can boost with an afc and stock injectors da6, like posted by needahonda, check all your vacuum/boost line to the wg. are you using a boost controller? how do you have the wg hooked up? how high have you boosted according to your boost gauge?

i have the hose coming from the compressor housing... should i run it somewhere else? it sbeen boosted with the internal wastegate for like a month now, i jus got the external wastegate and i put the 9psi spring cuz i thought it should be fine with that but its like its not opening... i think its like "leakinng" boost because it has this gay *** "onboard" blow off valve and i think that thing is opening durring boost lol. its not hooked up and its capped off but i think it opens under to much boost. cuz it doesnt "bogg" unless i get into high high boost. at lower boost if pulls fine. ima find a way to completly cap it off then try a lower boost spring. i'm not using a boost controler because of the set springs i knew how much it was supposed to boost anyway. accuracy is key on forced induction....

read honda-tech? why so i can blow up =x i kno enough about putting ---- in, ive studied HMT long enough to open a shop now lol. thanks for trying buddy but stick to the thread. now i kno why i dont go to h-t no more heh

did you buy the wg brand new, or was it used? if you were leaking boost, you wouldn't have to worry about over boosting you have your vacuum line hooked to the side port on the wg right?

no, hook it to the side one, that's your problem. you only use the top one for an ebc, the top should be open, venting to atmosphere.
