I currently have a 90 degree bend directly off my turbo for my return. I unknowingly purchased a blown turbo, so it has been blown the entire time my car has been turbo. So I am going to purchase a new turbo but I wanted to know if anyone is succesfully running a 90 degree bend off their turbo for their return?

I thought about replacing it, but if I replaced it with say a 45 degree then it would place the return line further down, and I might have to retap the oil pan, and that might have to be below the oil line. In other words, it may open up a bunch of other problems.

So does anyone run a 90 degree bend without problems?

 

As long as your return line goes downward from the 90, I don't see a problem.
I know alot of hmt users also use a restrictor valve to compensate for leaking seals. Not ideal, but it works.

 

I have one of your ball valves. But my turbo was blown from the start, so it didnt help. Im about to bolt up another turbo and I just want to know if the 90 will cause problems. Its not downward, but pretty much level. There is a dip in the return line itself though.

 

there's only a very small trickle of oil coming outta there take off your return line & inspect it so you can see this is true. In my opinion, even if the return would be flat with the oil pan, oil would still see it's way into the pan w/o a problem cause of the forward motion of the car. even if the return is a little sideways.

 

We've done this before. Yes the motion helps it back to the pan, but around here we have stop lights.

my oil return goes strait down out of the turbo and then level with the oil pan for a good 4 -5 in. no probs. yet. i do have a needle valve in the oil feed tho.

 

i got the stealthmode kit, and b/c im not a big fan of the way the hose was kinking, i went to the hardware store and bought a 90* fitting. it threads into the tunertoys fitting, and then the barb threads into the other side. car doesnt burn any oil (well, no more than it used to :P)

 

you can find all sort of hoses with different angles at autozone. i have a 45 degree hose on my return cause a flat one would kink.

 

I think this has been discussed before...as long as the oil pan fitting is lower than the oil-return on the turbo it shouldn't matter if there is a low spot in the line just like a sink drain with the J. Obviously this doesn't agree with "Maximum Boost" philosophy, but this is hmt. Just make sure there are no kinks in the hose.

 

We've done this a couple times too. Some of those hf mani/adapter plates hang the turbo so low that you almost have to. I've thought about including the 90 instead of the straight, but I haven't heard too many negative situations about the straight to change it. I think it would work better, but I just haven't heard the amount of negatives that would actually make me change it.
