89 std hatch b16a turbo project HMT

I am throwing my old b16a into my 89 std hatch. I pulled the b16 redid all the wiring changed the head gasket and rear main seal and oil pan gasket. Im also turboing it. Its going to have a cca intercooler, a old shitbird manifold, t3/t4e 57trim precision turbo. I welded all the charge piping and down pipes. Im also going to weld up a 3" exhaust and there are a few photos showing me welding my exhaust. I plan on finishing within the next few days or so. check out the photos at flikr

Have people had bad luck with msd caps. I used to have a modified stock one for an external coil but it was worn out and needed to get a new one. I mostly got it becasue the cap has a screw down holder that holds down the wires so they dont vibrate off. Ohh, on a side note I started it up for the first time yesterday with an open down pipe it sounds really mean. It started with the first key turn so im pretty happy.

How much boost are you planning on running? Factory internals?

Yea everything on the motor is stock. Its just a good old b16a I got a few years back. Im planning on running about 8lbs of boost and its going to be my daily driver. I could run more but I really want reliability. Im almost done with my exhaust. Its hard to find time to work on the car between my job and band and stuff but it should be done soon.

Re: 89 std hatch b16aturbo project HMT

I thought I'll do a small update today. Here is my ghetto boost gauge setup. I used a compound gauge that I got from Omega engineering. I got one of there cheaper ones. Its 3% accurate for the first and last 10% of movement and 2% accurate for the rest. So with a 15psi guage that is about a +-a third a psi. I used a quick connect fitting to go to 1/4 in tube from the 1/4 NPT on the back of the gauge. Pisco makes the fittings and there pretty cheap. I also just installed the cluster from a 89 civic si.

NICE BUILD!
How much was the gauge?

sleepercivic88 08-02-2008 06:54 PM

Re: 89 std hatch b16a turbo project HMT

The guage was about 25 bucks or so. You can also spec them out to be pretty much any pressure range that you want.

Re: 89 std hatch b16a turbo project HMT

Why not just run a sunpro?

sleepercivic88 08-02-2008 08:20 PM

Re: 89 std hatch b16a turbo project HMT

because its a higher quality guage in every aspect.

Re: 89 std hatch b16a turbo project HMT

Its running right now but still has a few odds and ends to work out before I fully finished. I need to get it tuned so I can rip into it. Who is a good tuner in colorado with access to a dyno. Im running bre.
