75mm vitaras not actually 75mm's ???

hey my machinist just called me and told me my vitaras arent actually 75mm ?? is this possible, he says the block is fine and its exactly 75mm, but not my pistons, im gonna have a .008 piston- wall clearance if i still go ahead with it , now is it possile hes just ether trying to screw me into buying other pistons at his shop ? and if not if i let my car warm up and the pistons expand before driving it will i have blowby with that much clearance ? this blows lol...

no .. lol wtf reasons would i look up stock vitara specs, when i buy pistons that are written 75mm on the box i expect 75mm pistons, not 74.8 -+

so what about my massive piston-wall clearance ??? if i let her warm up till she stops knocking etc, any chances i get blow by or worst.. ?

thats why in america, we measure pistons in thousand's of an inch.

my stock pistons are written and ordered as 3.875" (98mm).....

but do you know what 98mm is..... 3.858, 0.017" difference

This is pretty common knowledge. Most people just use them anyways and deal with the slop in the clearance.

If you are that worried about it, you could go with some 76mm vitaras and bore the cylinders out. A budget setup is a budget setup though, if you want tighter clearances you could always go with some real forged pistons, they come in all different sizes ;)

vitara's have slap for a reason. If you want to do it right sell them buy a set of forged pistons

I find this topic funny since there are lots of guys running vitaras all the way up to 400hp. You should go over to honda-tech an take a look around there about those pistons

the fact that people run them with high hp doesnt mean that they dont have a lot of piston to wall clearance when used with a stock bore

so what does everybody do then? just deal with it?

seems like it...or you could get oversized ones and re-bore but it all seems like a waste

Um thats not news. The fact that the clearnces on them is not what any machinist would let out his door is,that gives a rats ass about his reputation. Does it work, yes. Will it cause blowby and increased wear yes. Will forged pistons own vitara's yes. Have people made 550+whp and run 10's or faster on viatras no. Are forged pistons cheap these days yes.

You should stay at honda-tech and look at all the fun lines of fake dynos and hype

wow sounds like someone is pissed because a 100 dollar set of pistons have held well over 400whp on MULTIPLE builds for long periods of time and your pissed because you spent so much more money on an expensive as hell set of forged.

haha actually i have no idea what setup you run but it really sounds like you hate vitaras. why hate on a total hmt budget piston setup that has been proven to withhold over 400whp?? sounds like a killer deal to me.. which is why i have a set in my room ready to go in
