5 psi on D16Z2

Hello guys!

I'm from Austria and drive a 91 Civic hatchback. (ED7)
Engine is a D16Z2 with stock 9.1 CR and 120 hp on the dyno.

A few weeks ago i decided to go f/i with a KKK K03 custom setup. This turbo is used on 150/180 hp Audi A3's here in Europe.

Right now i'm writing some things together to get a clear view of cost's, needes parts and so on. I hope you can help me out a little bit.

Goal for this setup is 170 hp and about 200 nm of torque at thy flywheel. Should be an easy daily driver. I think i'll get this figures at around 5 psi of boost. It will be all fuel/spark/boost managed and tuned on the dyno, since i want it to be bullet proof. For cost reasons i would stick to the stock exhaust and dont want to use an intercooler, since this makes the whole thing very much easier to install.

Do you think that's possible and/or safe? Temperatures in my reagion are not that hot.

You'll never reach 170 hp to the wheels on 5 psi with that tiny turbo...and no intercooler and stock exhaust... :o

think about a bgger turbo like the T3 43.
and a intercooler.

and an intercooler is probably a must.

170 hp at the FLYWHEEL! Not at the wheels. In Europe it's common to speak about flywheel hp.

I live in Europ..and i don't give a rats ass about flywheel hp....wheel hp is what counts when you're driving ;) oh yeah 170 flywheel hp is doable with that small thing...hmmmm I hope you can rev up to the 7000+ rpm's the engine is made for without the turbo going dead on ya

I know that it's more realistic to talk about wheel horsepower, but.....dont ask, it's just like that down here. :D

Anyway. The K03 powers normally an 1.8 Liter 20V 4 cylinder, which also revs about 6500. With chipped ECU this cars make 210 hp at the flywheel! I've often driven those car's and this turbo spools very well at about 1700 rpm in 4th gear. I'm pretty sure i'm right with the K03. Also my little D16 is not really built for revs above 7000 since redline starts at 6500. ;)

I just want to know, if anyone has experience with small setups without IC and/or stock exhaust.

Flywheel horsepower is gay and check the turbo projects for setups. I would at least get cheap intercooler from a junkyard or ebay. You could proly find a DSM side mount for like $30. I would do something about exhaust too. What kind of fuel management are you going to use? Are you going to chip your own ECU with something like turboedit/uberdata?

Re:5 psi on D16Z2

With the stock exhaust your turbo will spool at about 3000 rpm's
You need at least a 2 inch exhaust for that turbo

Re:5 psi on D16Z2

ECU will be written with Turboedit by myself. Boost controller is right now in development. Friend of mine own's a tuning company and is currently working on it. It will be finished till spring he said. He also own's the dyno where we'll be tuning my setup.

It's not that a problem if the turbo spools at 3000, since sooner or later i will get an 2.5" exhaust, but i'm a little concerned about the temperatures in the cylinder head/turbo/downpipe area with the small stock exhaust. I thought of maybe taking off the catalyst to compensate the small diameter a bit, until i've got money for the 2.5" exhaust. Would that help out? Prices for complete 2.5" systems are on the expensive side in my area. I will have to spend at least 650 Euros for a custom or Supersprint cat back system. (650 Euro ~ 800 USD)

@beerbong: Is that you on the pic?
@semnos: Where do you come from?

here in the states you can get rednecks to make you custom exhaust for 150 bucks before the cat and back. hell i've seen people get full cat backs made up for 70 bucks.
