4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

Does anyone know of a fairly easy way to make a downpipe? i dont have access to a welder and i dont know if i could drive the car to the local muffler shop to have the downpipe made.. any ideas? if anyone has a downpipe for a t25 that will fit, let me know!

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

you will need the flange for it.. you can bring that to the muffler shop and have them fab it up for you. Might be a good idea to buy one of those pieces of flex pipe to use, also make sure that you have the right flange to mate with whatever cat you are using.

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

yea, ill have to do the same thing to, but luckly my friend has a car trailer and were going to tow it to muffler shop( 30mins away) And im going to get my downpipe made and lose the cat

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

typically muffler shops won't just dump the cat for you.. it's kinda illegal (as in the EPA could take their shop away).

So unless you got the good old boy network kicking.. might be better for you to just keep it in there and just knock out the guts.

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

i knew i was going to need to buy the flange.. will it hurt to drive the car for about 10 minutes with no exhaust on the turbo? i dont have a trailer or anything to get it there with.

probably take less than 10 minutes

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

if you're driving for only 10 minutes, the engine bay wont get that dirty. you'll be fine

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

yeah me too. im wondering how much it would cost me to have the car towed over there

quadnie 08-05-2004 09:05 PM

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

basic tow charge shouldn't be more then $50... see if you could call some privately owned tow companies to do it for $20 or so.. just call around.

I think you can rent a uhaul car tower for a few hours for a cheap price. Do you have access to a truck?

Sometimes your insurance company offers free towes with a roadside program, you might be able to buy that for like $5.. or sign up for AAA then cancel that ----.

many options for you to look at dude

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

ive got a ranger i could tow it with.. the muffler shop is probably 8 miles away from my house. they actually do paint/body but there is a guy there who does exhaust work.. getting ahold of him is the hard part

quadnie 08-05-2004 09:15 PM

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

well how far is a uhaul place? If you can make sure he is there and go by uhaul and pick up the car tower then you might be set.

There are two car towers, I think your ranger probably only has the balls to pull the single axle one (put front tires up and go).

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

uhaul place isnt to far away.. ill be thing about it while im installing everything.. setup probably wont be in the car for a week or two anyway. im just concerned that he may not have the equipment to merge the wastegate exit with the downpipe

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

Dude, just drive.. I remember when I first started doing this I had to drive to the exhaust shop, yes a good 10mins away. It's not that loud... its about twice as loud if you just had open header, but since the turbo is there it really isnt that bad.

quadnie 08-05-2004 09:33 PM

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

Why is it that every exhaust shop is only 10 minutes away? Even living out in the boonies the exhaust shop is 10 mins away.. not that I need him all the time (he does do some ------- good work for next to nothing tho).

Just start off with a cold car, don't be too rough on it and drive... or pull your hood off and drive it over (less heat).

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

well i may just try driving it.. im worried that the guy may have hard time merging the wastegate exit and the downpipe but i guess downpipe is better than nothing

HMT-Admin 08-06-2004 01:05 AM

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

He's going to ass rape you. Most exhaust shops are not going to like merging 2 pipes like that. I guess it really depends if its an exhaust/fabrication type shop or a freaking general tom and bob muffler shop. I hope you are going to atleast use mandrels for your downpipe?

green91 08-06-2004 01:11 AM

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

luckily i know the guy so it may not be to bad. i may just have him make the downpipe for now and re-do the rest of the exhaust later. i would like to use mandrel bent but ill have to see what hes got when i get there.

Good ole boy network owns...I had a shop put a temporary catback system on my car, and they just took the cat off my car.

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

when i had my downpipe made the guy quoted me $75 so I was like sweet, then it took them like 6 hours to get it done. They were struggling with it, they had three guys on it at one time. I know the guy was pissed that he told me 75 bucks but I sure was happy. :P

Curtis2kul 08-06-2004 05:38 PM

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

Re:4g civic, t25.. downpipe question

yea, when I went to pay for it the lady asked the mechanic how much, he told her 75 and he had a really pissed off look on his face. ;)
setup is a t25 on a zc at 10psi, pulls pretty hard, pulled dead even with a 02 mudstang on the highway.
