Default .48/.42 to .48/.60 conversion

what parts do i need and what do i need to do to convert a .48/.42 T3 into a .48/.60. This little turbo isn't gonna cut it and im broke so i need a bigger turbo for cheap.

Stevemode just said he used a T-Bird .60 and you have to grind the center section a little because it wiggles like 1mm. That's about it. You need the outlets and inlets though since they're flanged.

Take the 60 comp. housing and bolt it up before grinding it. This will give you a better idea of why/how you need to grind it. The grinding will need to come off the center section and 1mm should do it. Then bolt up the housing and you're good.

I can't believe the time and money wasted on finding a good T-bird turbo. These 42/48's are everywhere!!! whoo hoo.

so it would be a 50 trim turbo with a 60 housing?

So the wheels on both turbos are identical? Its one thing for it to fit... and another for it to fit over a wheel that doesn't take full advantage of the housing.

I stared at the wheels/housings, and measured them with a mic, and I came to the conclusion that they are the same. JD said they are different, but he never said why he thinks that.

I've already done this. The car pulled like mack truck, and if it still acted like a 42/48 it's safe to say it would only pull like a powerwheels.

Your conclusion, and your calculations, are wrong. Compressor wheel "trim" is calculated by inducer^2(minor)/exducer^2(major)*100. For the turbine, it is the opposite but you still calculate it the same. The exducer is the smaller (minor) and the inducer is the larger (major). It is still calculated the same however, exducer^2/inducer^2*100.

That being said, the T3 60 trim has a 1.830" minor and a 2.367" major. The 50 trim has a 1.674" minor and a 2.367" major.

Next time don't stare so much. It's bad for the eyes and can lead to false conclusions

Wouldnt a to4e .50 compressor side fit on a garret t3 t42.48.

Not without effort and a new backplate. The 50 trim TO4E measures 3.000" major and 2.122" minor.
