how do your plugs look when you pull them? have you checked to see if you're throwing any codes? unhook the fmu and try to start it then.

so you've got new plugs in and they're clean, you unhooked the fmu and have the fuel return system hooked up like stock, and it's not throwing any codes?? are you sure you're getting good spark at all? maybe a bad rotor or coil.

it sounds like it's something with the spark b/c if it barely idles at wot, that's usually how they act running really rich, but if the fmu isn't even hooked up, it wouldn't be running rich unless there was no spark to burn the normal amount of fuel. maybe just the coil is bad.

take the dizzy cap off and clean the points and clean the rotor, could just be a little corroded. rotors and caps are cheap, but coils are about 80-90 bucks :P
