14b or T3???

Right now, I'm running a saab t-3 on my car, but a friend of mine just gave me a 14b. I'm wondering if I would get a performance increase by using the 14b vs the t3. I'm sure it would spool quicker, but would it really be worth it to build a new manifold?

What are the pros/cons of each turbo?

In my opinion the 14b will spool quicker but will run out of power in the higher RPM range, were the T3 will give better over all performance and last longer, not to mention cheaper and easyer to rebuild if it does go bad in the future. Sell the 14b on E bay and use the money for fuel mods or someting. Thats my two cents.

I'm glad you said that, I needed someone to tell me to sell it!

Well that all depends on the size of the turbos.. maybe he's got a tiny T3 :D and that 14B might be a big 16g, never know :P but IMO just stick with what you have, why spend more to make a new manifold when you already have one that works.

agreed... What specs are the t3?

Some 14b's can easily outflow the smaller .42/.48 T3's.

But like they said, it probably isnt worth it, stick with whatcha got.

Well, as of this morning, my engine's blown >:( Too much boost + too much redlining = broken piston. The engine's coming out tomorrow, and while its out, I'm gonna build a new manifold. I think I have the smaller t3 (.48/.42) . I'm still not sure whether to go with the 14b or the t3. I think when I get my new engine, it's gonna get two headgaskets to lower the compression and avoid this problem again....

how much boost where you running? whats the compression ratio with one head gasket?

Bummer.. and you wanted to run more boost?!?!? hehehehe
stick with the T3 and the manifold you have now, unless it's a total POS. Or just get a BIGGER T3 instead of making a new manifold for a slightly larger or smaller 14b.

The C/R is 9.5:1 stock, I think I might get it down to 9:1 or so...

I think I will stick with the t-3 since its so easy and cheap to repair/modify them, I will definately make a new manifold out of stainless.
