14b spools but no boost
I got a good one here. I have a 14b turbo, on a z6. I hear it spool but I do not feel it at all. I get to about 5k in 2nd and shift and the blowoff valve is just barely audible. The car doesn't feel like its boosted at all. I have checked every coupler, tried disconnecting the wastegate, and it still does not boost. This is my 2nd setup on this car so I'm not a total newb to this, but I'm baffled. Any ideas?

Re: 14b spools but no boost
maybe wastegat stuck open a little??? sounds like a boost leak

Re: 14b spools but no boost
just re-check all the pipes and the vac lines... could be a tear in those, too. When you say you disconnected the WG, did you just take off the vac lines? If that's the case and it was still not boosting, like the guy above me said, the WG could be stuck open a little.

Re: 14b spools but no boost
check to make sure the wastegate isnt forcing open the flapper, by the way you have it mounted...taht was my problem.
you are giving it full throttle arent you ^-^ |
Re: 14b spools but no boost
The little arm that controls the flapper which the actuator connects to is shut. And I can pull the actuator arm out by hand but not easily so that appears to function at least somewhat. There aren't any vacuum leaks either. I have checked the couplers 10x over. How big of a hole would u have to have anyway, to lose 8 psi?

Re: 14b spools but no boost
did you actually check every joint with soapy water? post up some pics of your vaccum lines or explain how they are routed.

Re: 14b spools but no boost
Yes sir, I checked every weld and coupler with soapy water. I have the actuator line going to an inlet welded to the pipe that's bolted to the compressor. Is there another spot preferred for that? And the bov is T'd with the intake mani and fpr.

What management are you running?
Its definately a leak somewhere or its got to do with the wastegate |

Re: 14b spools but no boost
plugged exhaust, cracked wastegate sealing surface (bad on 14b's) boost leak, exhaust leak. check these again and get back to us ;)

Re: 14b spools but no boost
Well up to today, I was running an open down pipe, but now I have a full 2.5", so I know it isn't a plugged exhaust. I have checked for all kinds of boost leaks everywhere, and at this point if a spot is leaking i am blind. The BOV gasket is brand new, as with the BOV itself. The only thing that doesn't check off is the wastegate sealing surface, what do you mean by that? I searched and I came to conclusion that you mean the part inside the exhaust housing in which the flapper mates to the exhaust passage...is that correct? It's too hot to pull off right now, Ill try in the morning. Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated.

Re: 14b spools but no boost
I had this same problem on my last set up, and its fix was pretty simple. Take off the wastegate. and go to the hardware store. Buy a pack of springs. youll want a few because the tension on the spring is whats going to set max boost. Take the spring and hook it throug the actuator arm, take the end and, while keeping it straight, put it into an empty bolt hole or something. I tryed this and sure enough I was boosting 12 psi with no issues. You can run it like this ( I did) or you can get a new wastegate if this fixed your problem

Re: 14b spools but no boost
I opened up the exhaust housing this morning and saw that the flapper was not sealing tightly against the mating surface because the arm was too long. So I grabbed 3 washers, and stuck them between the bold that holds the actuator to the cold side and now it seals tightly. :1 sometimes u just feel stupid when its something so dumb.

Re: 14b spools but no boost
also look inside the ex. housing and see if its cracked along the wastegate, it tends to crack and let boost slip out

Re: 14b spools but no boost
Yeah you told me that it was that way because of how you had it mounted, I thought you meant that you had relocated it, and needed further modification.
So is there something in there on the DSMs too or is it just a problem that comes with age? The 14b pwns the rhb5. I now experience a pull all the way to redline. |
