14b Disassembly!
ok so i picked up a 14b for 20$ cdn. knowing it had the horrible axial play.
so first i took off the exhaust housing. that was easy and out of the way. now onto that bitch ring on the cold side, jeebus christ that ring is tite. took the wheels off marked it, and set that aside. now it seems that little ring on the cold side is sliding in and out. i know thats not right but what could be wrong? next i pulled the other smaller snap ring off trying to get out the bearing housing. i got it off but how to you get the casing out of the turbo? also when i pulled the turbine shaft out the bearing on the hot side came with it. im thinking its core material cause its got what i call "custom trim" from hitting the housing. lol ;D those spring rings are dangerous, one almost hit me in the head at lightning speed flying off my ring compressor pliers. then i spent 20 min finding it. |

Re:14b Disassembly!
hey is the hot side of the turbo still good? bec i got a ---- load of cracks.
|
Re:14b Disassembly!
yeah mines cracked up pretty bad.
hrm i got the entire thing apart and it seems like the collar that goes behind the oil plate (moon looking brass thing) was installed wrong when someone did a rebuild. i think it was installed upside down and this caused axial play, but what i would really like is a diagram of the turbo like an exploded view. i wonder if the DSM people have a diagram around.. what are the good dsm board i am going to go ask.. |
