14b or 16g ?
 

I was wondering how to tell the difference between a 14b and a 16g ? I might pick up a 16g thats clipped 15 degrees but I'm thinking its actually a 14b. It came off a 98 talon running 17 psi and man this thing hualed ass. I'm planning on putting it on a stock ls replacing a t25 (came off same talon) which is being put on a 1.5 vtec. If it is a 14b, would it be any better than the t25? The car ran mid 13's with the t25 but started losing power past 5500 rpm. Thanx.

13's on a t-25 in a full weight 2G? I think that's a little far fetched. You can tell the difference between the two very easily. A 16g will have a 070 stamped on the exhaust housing and a 14b 060. However, I guess someone could have swapped a 7cm housing onto a 14b. The best way to tell is look at the compressor wheel. The 14b is single finned and the 16g is dual finned. Also, make sure it's a real Mitsubishi turbo. If it has TD05H stamped on the front and the compressor wheel is double finned (1 set big, 1 smaller) then you're good to go.

Ok its definitly a 16g , TDO5H, 070 and double finned. The ls with T25 was in a 93 eg with no back seat or carpet ( due to water damage) so it's not that far fetched. If I knew how to post pics,(I found a 13.6 time slip) I would. I should figure out how so I can post pics of my new setup when done and lots of other crap. But thank you for the info, it helped alot. This just made my life alot easier. Thanx.

No dude, I thought it was mid 13's on a 2G Eclipse full weight. They are much heavier than a Honda and mid 13's is damn near impossible and pointless on a T25. You're gonna love the 16g. I'd say it was bad that it was clipped, but only if it was a larger turbo. I think clipping a fast spooling turbo is good, at least if you're going to be reving to the moon. Less material on exhaust wheel=less restriction, simple as that.

ok so since my turbo says TD05H and 060 stamped on the exhaust housing with single fin, isnt it considered a 13g?

It is a shitty turbo overall except for spool. Not even close to impossible. The known record is a 13.1@103

There are 16 people on that list, some of them are lightened, AllTrbo's car wasn't significantly lightened.

The 16g will be nice one for you.

The 13g in the DSM is not a TDO5H turbo and all "g" wheels have staggered height compressor fins. What are the numbers on the compressor housing?

That on the exhaust housing. If off auto and you're sure it's the stock turbo and has dual fins then it's 13g. It'll say td04h on it too. I haven't seen a 13g for ages. Yeah Aero dude, I figured there was some nutty guys maxing out their t-25's, but it really is almost impossible for the average guy with basic to limited knowledge. You got that info off DSMtimes.org right?

no it says TD05H, and i dont have the turbo took apart so i cant tell if it has dual fins or not.....if your talkin about lookin into the compresser where that fin is, theres only 1
