custom manifold, a big t3, an ssac waste gate with 5.8 psi spring, intercooler, custom charge piping, and with only 5-6 psi put an fmu on the bitch and dont worry about it, retard the base timing a few degrees and it'll be fine......its really cut and dry when it comes to a 5-6 psi set up on ANY car, its not gonna be huge power gains, but you'll notice the difference for sure....

QR25 = Crap

I've never replaced more of one single motor in my life, I swear I did like 6-7 of those in altimas and sentras back at the nissan store. What a joke, terrible oiling system, weak ring lands... and nissan has a huge recall to try and cover it up.

It's to bad this was the engine to take place of the SR20

well I think simply the fact that the motor which is supposed to be a performance engine and I would thing, rugged, cant spin above 6500 rpm's............Not a good replacement for the 20sr. Im sure nissan got what they wanted though, a motor that gives the appearance of good power (low down torque tricks you) and doesnt put out and cant be modded to much thanks to design.

But I guess turbo'ing it with a few pounds of boost should be fine. Week ring lands, well that means you wont be going past 5-6 pounds. I know my engine should have shallow ring lands, but 8.85:1 compression, and I should technically be able to get away with over 12 psi intercooled easy. Plus my bottom end is rock solid 6g72, just crap pistons.

My bottom end is good for up to 8k+ rpm's, sohc heads should die out over 6500. Sucky.
Im sure the QR25 heads are a lot better than mine, but if you have that much stroke and small rod journals, I dont think you can fix that (because you might as well trash the motor and grab something that already works). I dont know why you would want to fix that unless you absolutely love an inferior motor more than nissan does.

Good luck. I have a hard enough time making decisions on my own projects, researching for my friend's would be impossible.

Are you sure its impossible to retard the timing manually? If so, pick up a used universal MSD BTM.
