02 sensor bung location.
 

i have a 96 civic y7/y8 mini me, with a garett t3 .42/.48. I'm running a 3 inch downpipe, how many inches after the exhaust housing should i put my 02 sensor bung?

I'm assuming your wanting to install a wideband. I'm told Narow band sensors work fine close to the turbine.

I'm from the miata crowd but over there the general consensus is to mount it around 3 feet from the turbine exit. The additional heat from the turbo will usually cause them to fail if mounted too close. Most here mount them in the 12 O' clock position (sensor sticking up with the wires coming out the top) if possible so that moisture can not drip onto it. When that's not possible, the 9 to 3 O'clock position works fine, but I would avoid the 6 O' clock as you don't want any water or condensation on you O2 sensor.

That said, I run nitrous and my wide band sensor is about 1 foot from the manifold. I added a copper heat sink (per the wide band instructions) to aid in keeping it cool when a proper location is not used. So far so good, but when I turbo it will be mounted 3' down with no heat sink. I'm sure others will chime in and correct me if this is not suitable for you Honda folks.

1 foot minimum, maximum is where ever you can fit it before the cat if you have one. definitely on top or close to it. mines on about 45* angle on one side in a downward part or a bit shallower. its 2 foot back and i had no issues. the bigger the exhaust the cooler it will be, the smaller, the hotter...

for narrow band, it MUST be close to the engine as they rely on being hot

wideband needs to be hot too, but not to hot or A it wont be accurate B it wont last

wideband temp is regulated accurately with a heater. if you put it too close, it might run above the right temperature without any heater input. you cant cool it down, only heat it up...
