So the normal boost provided by a turbo is 6-8 pounds per square inch. If the AVERAGE atmospheric pressure is 14.5 (give or take .3), then why doesn't a 8 psi turbo double the amount of horses you have? Just curious.

thats a hardcore math problem. all i know is that the general formula for a b16 is (hp) * (boost+14.7)/14.7
so 160*(8+14.7)/14.7= 247 hp

that sounds high but i read that somewhere... of course it all depends on your turbo too

I don't undersatnd why you would think 8 psi will double the horsepower? 8 psi means nothing. It's all about the cfm.

Also, the motor has many more factors than just boost pressure. The motor has to be able to take the air in, ignite the air/fuel, and get rid of the air. You can try to cram all the air you want into a motor, but if it can't ignite it and get rid of it in an efficient manner it won't produce worth a ----.

Hmm ... it seems as if you are too smart for your own good! :P I would assume that the exhaust flow being obstructed by the actual turbo would mean a prevention of equal ratio proportions. But hey, as you stated it ALL depends on your turbo.

Haha, that makes more sense. My head hurts after trying to figure out why you would think 8 psi would "double" the horsepower.

The obstruction the turbo causes is the price you have to pay for the massive gain in horsepower and IMO it is minimal. I would gladly take a ~5 horsepower loss in the bottom end to gain ~60 at the top. ;) It's like taking an inch off one of your arms and adding it to the length of your penis. It's a pretty fair trade. :)
