why are welds porous
I sexed these welds together with yea ol' flux. put everything together got it running and couldn't get it to boost. I would accelarate and boost gauge would go straight to 0 never anything positive. I pulled the pipes apart and hit them up with the soapy water and got a bubble bath. the holes are all smaller than a pinhole but there are tons of them.
This was one of the nice ones, didn't leak bad but had one or two pin holes http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h1...s/100_0225.jpg I tried going over again with yea ol' flux but no haps, the bitch is still leaking so...................I had to hit em' up with the majic ----.......... JB. Question is.....why are my welds seeping like a pig. BTW I figured a cool way to pressure test the pipes will post pics tonight. once I'm done JB'ing. |
Re: why are welds porous
JB weld wont stay on a manifold.

Re: why are welds porous
flux c core is greg luGAYness. You need gas.

Re: why are welds porous
so what is this kool way to pressure test pipes.
|
Re: why are welds porous
grind the welds down almost smooth and then apply jb weld, when the jb weld is ALMOST cured hit it w/ a file to smooth it down. fills the holes and doesnt look like ASS. then paint.

Re: why are welds porous
try to slow down the speed and try a stitch weld. go back and forth across the seam.
make sure you use a wire brush before beginning. |
Re: why are welds porous
I had the same thing happen to me on my downpipe and charge pipes I made with my flux core. Here is my super-awesome pressure test method:
Go into a completely dark room (I used the bathroom since every other room had windows) and shine a flashlight through it. Weld up the pinholes, repeat until they are gone. |

Re: why are welds porous
Are these the charge pipes? or the turbo manifold?

Re: why are welds porous
They are the charge pipes, they aren't holding a lot of pressure and not much temperature either, I figure they would hold. Don't most people weld their charge pipes?
